Job Overview

This position undertakes a broad range of HR-related responsibilities and is a critical partner within the HR team. This position is involved in every aspect of the employee life cycle and provides a wide range of activities and support to many programs and processes including talent acquisition, talent management, employee engagement, performance management, employee development and training, employee relations, compensation, policy development and general administration. This role must be well-versed in employment laws and standards, and compliance. The HR Generalist will also be involved with HR project management and participate in a number of operational priorities in support of enhancing business results and driving performance.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact for supporting employees and managers with queries and provides guidance with employee relations and HR policies and procedures. Will escalate issues to the HR Manager or leader as necessary.

  • Partners closely with HR Managers and performance leaders across the organization on initiatives including managing job descriptions, creating job requisitions/approvals to hire, and supporting the pre-hire processes.

  • Facilitates the full employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding ensuring a positive employee experience. This employee advocate responsibility includes engaging in activities such as provisioning of resources, coordination of introductory meetings, employee pulse checks and engagement activities, exit interviews and a number of other employee programs.

  • Ensures the data integrity and consistency of HR employee transactions utilizing a variety of HRIS systems. Is the next level support for benefits administration, time and attendance, and vacation management when required by the team.

  • Initiates discussions with HR Managers to identify areas for improvement and opportunities across processes, practices and programs

  • Takes ownership of keeping up to date on company policies and procedures and proactively identifies opportunities to revise, edit, and communicate practices, policies and procedures including related support documents as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with changing legislation and alignment with organizational objectives to minimize business risks.

  • Coordinates employee fringe benefit plans through finance/payroll, including health and wellness, employee referrals, and education tuition reimbursements.

  • Coordinates semi-annual HR performance cycles in collaboration with HR Manager’s and the team.

  • Partners with HR managers to coordinate the facilitation of corporate training.

  • Manages relocation administration when required.

  • Drives the process for ensuring compliance with HR laws.

  • Produces people metrics/reporting, when required.

  • Champions a safe and positive work environment by demonstrating HR and Komatsu’s core values and best practices.

  • Supports various Union Relations Activities

  • All other duties and HR projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or combination of formal education and experience in Human Resources.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive HR experience.

  • Knowledge of all functional HR areas including employee relations, employment law, recruiting, performance management, compensation, benefits, program and process management, and employee development.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and develop effective relationships with all levels of employee stakeholders including management.

  • Strong HR administration skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize numerous activities within a deadline orientated environment.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Has a dependable “can-do” attitude with enthusiasm for innovation and process improvement

  • Brings an elevated energy to the team in pursuit of operational excellence.

  • Knowledge of SAP Success Factors is an asset.

  • Previous work experience in the mining, manufacturing, or energy sector is a plus.

  • Up to 50% travel required
