The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ( NOAA ) Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystem-II ( CCME -II), led by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University ( FAMU ) in partnership with Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU), California State University- Monterey Bay ( CSUMB ), Jackson State University ( JSU ), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi ( TAMU -CC), and the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Center. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research and participate in the training of CCME -II graduate and undergraduate scholars in the CCME -II thematic areas aligned with NOAA priorities and NOAA Science and Technology Areas of Focus; NOAA - CCME -II’s primary mission is to educate a new generation of scientists in NOAA -aligned disciplines, particularly from communities traditionally underrepresented in these fields; integral to this mission is collaborative research addressing NOAA priorities, particularly those of the NOAA National Ocean Service and the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research line offices; The NOAA EPP / MSI CSC postdoctoral fellowship is intended to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in the scientific research fields relevant to the NOAA mission, particularly coastal and marine ecosystems. This fellowship is initially a 12-month appointment with the potential for extension up to 24 months. The successful candidate will be based at the UTRGV CCME -II partner institution and will also spend a 6-12-months period conducting research in person at a NOAA facility in collaboration with a NOAA mentor.
Description of Duties
Coordinating research activities in collaboration with CCME -II faculty and NOAA scientists; assisting CCME -II faculty with laboratory and field-based student research and training activities; conducting research at a NOAA facility for a 6–12-month period during the fellowship; developing an independent research project in marine/coastal/estuarine ecology or biogeochemistry; presenting at professional, scientific meetings and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; facilitating research experiences for CCME -II undergraduate and graduate students; performing other related duties as assigned by the CCME -II faculty mentor and partner institutional PI.

Required Education
Ph.D. in Marine Science, Oceanography, Environmental Science, or related field with experience in coastal, marine, and estuarine ecology and/or biogeochemistry.

Required Experience
Research experience in a relevant field, demonstrated productivity, and evidence for independent research. Experience in laboratory, bioinformatics, and/or fisheries trophic ecology research methods. Experience in collecting data and working with large databases.
Preferred Experience
Experience in analyses of fish diets (larvae, juveniles and/or adults) using gut content analyses, stable isotopes analyses, and/or metabarcoding to determine trophic relationships. Experience in the use of metabarcoding to identify fish eggs and larvae to determine spawning areas and timing in the Gulf of Mexico and related natural resource management, marine management, and policy.
Equipment
Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other
Strong quantitative and analytical skills. This NOAA EPP / MSI CSC postdoctoral fellowship award is restricted to the following Eligibility Requirements: (1) United States Citizenship; (2) Recent doctoral graduate – within two (2) years of graduation; and (3) Doctoral degree field must be in the NOAA mission sciences.
