CITY of SOMERVILLE Electrician in Somerville, Massachusetts
Performs skilled electrical work at the journeyman level. Installs, tests, repairs and maintains electrical circuits, wiring systems, fixtures, appliances and equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs faulty electrical wiring, defective electrical equipment and machinery such as motors, generators, transformers, switches, sockets, etc. Inspects and tests circuits and fixtures to locate broken wires, loose connections, blown fuses, faulty switches, grounds, shorts and other defects. Uses common hand tools and electrical OHM test equipment such as meters, voltmeters, ammeters, growlers, multimeters, and other test equipment. May remove, replace, and repair electrical parts. May maintain storage batteries. Performs supervision over helpers and apprentices. Perform other duties as assigned. Recommended Minimum Qualifications Must have knowledge of trade practices and safety regulations. Must be able to make oral and written reports of work performed. Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Journeymen\'s License. Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Class D driver\'s license. Work Environment This position primarily works indoors, but may be subject to outdoor environmental conditions, including wet, hot and cold, and exposure to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Work may require some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain, or standing or walking most of the work period. Physical Skills While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions especially in emergency repair situations. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds using appropriate equipment.
