SHI Sr. Software Engineer - AI ML in Austin, Texas

Job Summary

The Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible for the analysis, design, and development of full stack software applications that are deployed to Cloud platforms (Azure & AWS) and leverage homegrown or third-party AI/ML services. As a software engineer and member of the AI/ML Team, you will work with internal stakeholders to understand their business needs to design and build core AI services and new custom applications. In addition, the software engineer should have experience withrelevant modern development technologies such as Python, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful services, along with working knowledge of databases (SQL and NoSQL), automation, and infrastructure technologies. The successful candidate will be adaptable to the ever-changing technology landscape, exhibit unrelenting passion for their work, enjoy experimenting with new technologies, thrive in high-performance teams, demonstrate resourcefulness in finding solutions to challenging problems, believe in craftsmanship, and possess an infectious positive attitude.

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Support software design process based on functional requirements.

  • Consult with project teams and end users to identify application requirements.

  • Design and write detailed design specifications, develop, and implement new software features or modifications to existing software.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on code quality correctness and style.

  • Support CI/CD process for stability, efficiency, security, and quality of all shipped code.

  • Support Runtime platform maintenance, integration of new features, and release fixes.

  • Make recommendations for continuous improvement of SDLC and DevOps.

  • Design, develop, and implement test automation to improve efficiency and enforce quality/security baselines.

  • Support in creating and maintaining product documentation.

  • Participate in advanced support escalation for live site management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Experience reading and writing technical specifications.

  • 5+ Years of experience with the following programming languages: Python, SQL, JavaScript

  • 5+ years of experience writing high-performance, thread-safe code that allows for serving requests in sub-millisecond times.

  • 5+ years of experience debugging difficult live site problems and building automation to run a high-scale service distributed system.

  • 5+ years of experience developing applications in Azure or AWS.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), including their architectures, training processes, and applications.

  • Working knowledge of the Git Source Control System.

  • Working knowledge of Agile software development principles.

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, NoSQL, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful services.

  • Demonstrates excellent spoken and written communication and receptive listening skills, with the ability to present ideas in a clear, concise fashion to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Strong ability to work independently or in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks, manage time, problem prevention, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven experience as a hands-on engineer designing and delivering solutions to meet complex design and architectural challenges in a cloud services environment.

  • Prior experience building services that run on Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services Infrastructure.

  • Deep practical experience operating high-scale services in production environments.

  • Experience and opinions on what great observability looks like, what safe deployments look like, and whether to push code on Fridays.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), including their architectures, training processes, and applications. Experience with popular LLM (Large Language Models) frameworks and tools such as GPT, BERT, or similar, and a deep understanding of fine-tuning techniques and deployment strategies.

  • Experience delivering software applications that leverage homegrown or third-party AI/ML services (e.g., chat, recommendations, classification, forecasting, etc.).

  • Highly proficient computer networking skills with a depth of knowledge in application-level protocols such as REST, SOAP, and Graph.

  • Experience with the FastAPI and Flask.

  • Experience with popular JavaScript frameworks like React.JS, Electron.JS, and Redux or Jotai Toolkit.

  • Experience in various webserver frameworks such as Apache Web Server, nginx, uvicorn.

  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting to large audiences and customers.

  • Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services and software.

  • Experience with C#.

Unique Requirements

  • Position requires up to 10% of travel as determined by SHI Management

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual.
