Performs advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. [Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence].Essential Duties: Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management. Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers. Represents the Department in dealings with producers and suppliers. Trains and assists other inspectors and private sector employees and provides project specification information. Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections. Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors. Performs tests and inspection duties. Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
