Developmental Disabilities Institute Art Gallery Assistant in Smithtown, New York
Description
DDI's Art Gallery Assistant ensures that Main Street Masterpieces promotes the artistic work of the individuals that we support.
Salary Range: $22.95-$27.54/hour
Responsibilities:
Regularly assess the art gallery to ensure it’s clean, and looks presentable to the public
Conduct regular audits of art inventory
Label and maintain art gallery inventory database
Assume key responsibility for the sale of artwork at the gallery. This will include maintaining an active catalog of all pricing for pieces in the gallery and management of inventory as a result of purchase transactions.
Maintain all purchase transactions and ensure proper accounting records at all times. Responsible for following departmental protocols to ensure all sale money is properly safeguarded and transported to Finance.
Gather sign in sheets from responsible parties, review and place in binder. Communicate any missed openings to the Recreation Coordinator
Review sign-ups for newsletter, add to database of art gallery mailing list
Assist with the planning of upcoming gallery events
Provide training and assistance to groups opening up the gallery
Provide ongoing art instruction to groups visiting the gallery
Ensure that all art work is displayed properly (hung straight)
Ensure that responsibility check off sheets are available at all times to groups opening the gallery
Ensure website is on at all times and made available to visitors
Work with Recreation Coordinator to ensure website is current and maintained
Provide a pleasant greeting to any and all visitors to the gallery and inform them of upcoming events
Ensure gallery lighting is maintained and any repairs/cleaning is requested in a timely manner
Qualifications:
HS Diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Arts or related programs, preferred.
Willingness to travel to multiple sites
Ability to model recreational activities being taught as part of the job responsibilities
Desire and ability to work with the DD/ID population
Essential Physical Demands:
Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the adults i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
Must be able to able to lift , bend, twist, carry a minimum of 35 lbs
Must be able to run after an individual up to 500 feet
Must be able to run to a program in need up to 500 feet
Must be able to kneel, twist and bend
Must be able to perform all physical SCIP techniques
