Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services D&A Recovery Support Specialist in Smithport, Pennsylvania

POSITION PURPOSE: Provide support for adults 18+ struggling with substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders who are in need of outreach, mentoring, peer support and guidance as well as resource information and referral at all stages of recovery to assist individuals before, during and after treatment.

  • Advocates for individual and family needs with substance use disorder professionals, mental health professionals, medical professionals, outreach, engagement, and others within the jail.
  • Encourages individuals empowerment in asserting their rights and needs.
  • Provides instruction, role modeling, and coaches individuals in skill building activities such as budgeting, shopping, housekeeping, job interviewing, civic involvement, and self-assertiveness training.
  • Problem-solves with individuals and interacts with other team members (treatment staff, medical professionals, probation officers, jail personnel, etc. as applicable) to eliminate obstacles to recovery, e.g. linkage to child-care, transportation, housing, health concerns, etc.
  • Provides input to individuals developing a personal recovery plan, which provides self-determined direction to ones recovery process.
  • Offer guidance on the recovery experience, to include stage appropriate recovery education.
  • Conducts recovery check-ups and promotion by observing behavior and forms of individual contacts upon release, e.g. feedback such as telephone or e-mail.
  • Facilitates access to various community resources, including housing, employment, education, transportation, recreation, health, religious/spiritual, and other resources needed to meet goals, objectives, and needs.
  • Prepares written documentation of services provided to individuals and the effectiveness of delivered supports.
  • Adheres to program rules, regulations, and safety programs in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Document and maintain files of the progress individuals have made toward accomplishing the goals and objectives delineated in treatment plans.
  • Monitor progress and perform follow-up activities appropriate for individuals aftercare plans until individuals recovery has stabilized and provide long-term engagement, support and encouragement.
  • Attends departmental meetings, AA meetings, and educational conferences in order to learn facts, skills, abilities, and attitudes necessary for assisting clients in independent living.
  • Maintains records and reports, under the supervision of recovery support supervisor, in order to learn and gain proficiency in this procedure.
  • Develops and implements recovery oriented programs with approval by supervisor.
  • Shares strengths, hopes and experiences with clients where applicable.
  • Provides recovery support services within the McKean County Jail.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, program manager or executive director

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Certified Recovery Specialists must possess their high school diploma or GED. 2. Full certification as a drug and alcohol recovery support specialist by a statewide certification body which is a member of a National certification body or certificate by another state governments substance abuse certification board within 12 months of hire. 3. Certified Recovery Specialist must maintain their PCB certification bi-annually.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide information to all individuals making contact with ADAS, Inc. 5. Organize, prepare and present data 6. Utilize proper spelling and punctuation 7. Move up to 30 pounds 8. Travel to various locations 9. Apply policies and guidelines and explain to individuals during intake 10. Understand written and oral instructions
