Job Description
The General Manager of Food Service, in a K-12 contract, manages the food service operation in a school cafeteria environment, serving students breakfast and lunch. The position is a 10-month assignment. NMS pays for employee travel to and from Sitka, and three round-trip airline tickets are offered for travel to the lower 48 during school holidays.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Management
Manages the daily operation of a high-quality, fiscally responsible industrial kitchen in a K12 school setting
Physically performs a wide variety of high-volume food production and preparation duties
Responsible for all orders (including federal commodities) and inventory management
Inspects incoming freight deliveries for order accuracy, product use-by dates, and freshness
Manages inventory appropriately with proper labeling and kitchen best practices
Communicate effectively and professionally with vendors
Collaboration
Works with the nutritional team to plan and implement nutritionally balanced, enticing, and cost-effective menus.
Prepares daily production records and maintains financial records
Monitors food lines ensuring NSLP compliancy
Management
Directs, supervises, leads, evaluates, develops, and coaches all assigned personnel
Maintains or approves various administrative materials such as time sheets, payroll matters, personnel or accounting materials, safety records, OSHA forms, MSDS records, etc
Maintains and follows all NMS/OSHA/Federal established safety practices
Accountable for all assigned responsibilities and comply with applicable regulations and sound business practices
Continuously exploring ways to improve the current food service program and operations.
Responsible for a high degree of sanitation is observed in all assigned areas, including safe chemical storage in all assigned areas
Makes sure required supplies and materials will be available as needed
May be tasked with special assignments, including conducting demonstrations, revising procedures, cost reviews, etc.
Will follow and train employees on all client evacuation and safety policies.
Responsible for providing the supervisor with regular financial reporting, student participation, and client-requested services.
May interview, hire, and train employees
Other related duties may also be assigned
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those with a culinary associate degree or a related field.
Five (5) years of consecutive employment in similar operations with comparable responsibilities.
At least three (3) years of experience as a food service supervisor in a restaurant, K-12 or relevant food service setting.
Strong knowledge of food and catering trends.
Preference will also be given to those with prior work experience in a high production setting.

Frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally required to lift, pull, and push. Rarely in cramped or confined spaces and climbing. Physical requirements: Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs. Travel is coordinated by NMS.
