The cemetery laborer will perform duties involving grounds maintenance and interment operations. Personnel will follow policy and procedures as set forth by Yard Chief Yard Care Inc. These duties include but are not limited to.

Grounds Maintenance:

Operates lawn mowers and other equipment required to present a well maintained and groomed appearance; trims headstones using weed whackers; edges walkways using power edger; aerates or thatches grounds as required; cleans and clears roadways and walkways using hand tools and backpack blowers; removes debris from cemetery property, applies lime and fertilizer to grass, trees and shrubs throughout the cemetery grounds; prunes shrubs, low level tree branches and cuts trees as required; weeds flower and shrub beds; removes snow and ice from roadways, walkways, interment shelter and building entrances; performs operational checks on equipment prior to use; performs minor and preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment and reports discrepancies to the cemetery supervisor; performs janitorial services; applies pesticides to cemetery grounds ( state pesticide licenses required); applies sand and ice melt to roads, sidewalks and entrances as needed; escorts personnel.

Interment Operation:

Safely opens and closes grave sites as required for casketed and cremated interments; operates equipment required to open and close graves; transports and places caskets on lowering devices for interment; cuts, removals and replaces sod removed from graves during burial, renovation or repair operations; tamps and levels dirt using hand and power tools; in-checks, inspections, transports, sets and aligns headstones; disposes of damaged or replacement headstones; installs temporary markers, assists in the backfill of open graves; raises and realigns headstones, maintains watering systems, performs irrigation operations: cleans headstones; assists with the installation of interment barrels for cremations., performs floral and debris pickup, performs grave renovations, performs headstone bump and run alignments, insulates plots for winter burials: perform ceremony set up/tear-down for veteran burials; applies pesticides for vertebrate and plant pests; performs any other task as directed by supervision
