Southwest Gas Corporation Measurement & Control Technologist - Sierra Vista, Wilcox, Safford & Douglas, AZ in Sierra Vista, Arizona

Perform complex measurement and control functions involving many types of gas measuring, regulation and controlling equipment; electronic devices and instrumentation associated with large commercial and industrial MSAs, regulator stations and gas custody transfer stations; other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years experience as a Measurement and Control Technician or equivalent. Successful completion of Measurement and Control Technologist training course.

Have a knowledge of installation, maintenance and calibration of complex measurement, regulation and controlling equipment including associated mechanical and electronic instrumentation. High pressure gas distribution; basic electronics, natural gas principles, mathematics through algebra; computer knowledge and application. Preparation of company forms and records. Troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques; mathematical calculations including formula manipulation.

Note: Employees must pass all written tests and/or hands-on training , or simulations as required for this job classification; this includes all the covered task modules for Operator Qualification. Employees must qualify in all covered tasks in their classification and satisfy all applicable requirements under State and Federal law.

TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform all duties of a M&C Technician

  • Install, repair and maintain large capacity system-type regulator stations and relief valves, regulators utilizing cage-guided valves, pneumatically operated control valves and associated devices/equipment

  • Perform code compliance and other inspections and maintenance on large capacity MSAs, large district regulator stations and gas custody transfer stations

  • Utilize ruggedized laptop PC to download and graph data from electronic pressure recorders, to view electronic maps, , and document compliance inspections, maintenance activities, and new meter set and regulator station work orders in the Install, maintain, and repair rotary meters, turbine meters, orifice meters, mechanical and electronic pressure and temperature correcting instrumentation, and other mechanical and electronic measurement devices and instrumentation

  • Build, install, and maintain new large capacity standard pressure MSAs.

  • Start-up, operate, maintain and inspect valves, as required

  • Install, operate and maintain odorization systems

  • Perform and document odorant checks of pipeline systems

  • Provide odorant conditioning of new pipelines

  • Exercise responsibility for complex problem solving and troubleshooting for all measurement and control equipment, instrumentation and assemblies encountered in the completion of assigned tasks

  • Perform security patrols at designated pipeline facilities in response to Homeland Security Department threat levels

  • Witness and verify custody transfer calibrations

  • Provide high pressure gas control for construction and maintenance activities and emergency response situations

  • May be required to implement and work under the Incident Command System (ICS) during emergencies

  • Calculate lost consumption and provide data for billing adjustments

  • Legibly and accurately complete all required paperwork

  • Utilize Windows-based PC applications to generate spreadsheets for projects assigned by supervisor, generate pressure charting graphs, etc

  • Complete transactions with customers, vendors, and other departments

  • Provide training for, and may direct, assigned employees

  • Incumbent may work in or near the presence of escaping natural gas

  • Incumbent may work in confined spaces

  • Independent problem definition and resolution

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner

  • Promote good public relations

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Meet and maintain the strenuous physical requirements of the position.

  • Must be able to be on-call.

  • Must be able to be contacted and respond for emergency duty when on-call.

  • Must respond to base location or emergency site within one hour or as division operational needs dictate, subject to Division VP approval, when on-call.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and/or other special licenses/certifications.

  • Must be able to meet requirements to acquire and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat endorsement as required by department needs.

  • Must be available to perform shift work, staggered work week, including recognized holidays.

  • Must be available to work overtime.

  • Must be able to wear a complete company-issued uniform.

  • Must be able to wear and use all personal protective safety equipment as operating conditions dictate.

  • Must be able to work in another location, district, or department.

  • Must be able to work outdoors, exposed to extremes in temperatures and conditions.

  • May be exposed to natural gas during the course of work.

  • Must successfully complete all aspects of required training.

  • Must comply with company rules of general conduct, company policies and procedures.

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who performs a DOT covered function or is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company’s DOT drug and alcohol testing programs. SALARY DETAILS

$39.81- $53.86
