Copeland Supplier Quality Engineer in REYNOSA, Mexico

Supplier Quality Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Track and report plant incoming rejects and quality issues. Identify supply base quality improvement opportunities. Work with Suppliers and commodity / regional SQEs to implement improvements and corrective actions.

  • Assist with the management of SCAR System, facilitate SCAR responses and approval. Assure SCARs are adequate and permanently resolve issues.

  • Coordinate non-conforming parts disposition. Facilitate reject containment, sorting and return to Suppliers. Assure inspection technique is correct and correlates with supplier. Assure adequate data is captured and sent to supplier. Quickly resolve supplier quality issues to prevent plant downtime.

  • Assure the development and implementation of incoming inspection (RMA) processes and procedures for all incoming parts. Consult with the commodity SQE in selecting proper gages, proper inspection techniques, and correlating measurement results with supplier’s results. Conduct gage R & Rs.

  • Develop and support suppliers through visits, CSA quality audits, process audits, lean projects, providing manufacturing process technical guidance, and other means as appropriate.

  • Conduct internal and external training necessary to improve supplier quality.

  • Support the SQE Program Engineer with new product development programs and supplier transitions from a supplier quality perspective. This includes setting up RMA / inspection requirements, assisting with plant pilots, providing pilot feedback, and determining plant specific packaging requirements.

  • Function as the Commodity SQE for specific commodity assignments. (Reference job description for commodity supplier quality engineer.)

  • Supervise co-op / intern students as required. Duties may include selecting candidates, assigning work, mentoring, instructing, and evaluating performance.

  • Develop and achieve annual objectives supporting overall department and company objectives.

Required Education:

  • 4 Year technical degree or 2 year technical degree with equivalent experience

Preferred Education:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering or MBA

  • Certifications in ASQ (CQA, CQE, CSQP)

  • Certified 6 Sigma Green Belt or Equivalent

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Core training requirements: See core training requirements document (Global supplier quality training plan.

  • Quality engineering experience including formal training in:

  • APQP; Flow Charting, Control plans, PFMEA

  • Statistical Process Control

  • Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R)

  • Problem Solving, Corrective Action, Process Improvement Techniques

  • Quality Auditing; System and process.

  • Quality Systems; ISO 9001 and/or IATF16949

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficient ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications including GD&T.

  • Knowledge of regarding trade compliance and environmental regulatory (US and International) requirements affecting Emerson Climate Technologies.

  • Proficient with computers and software as relates to business and quality needs.

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes used in assigned commodities.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills or Experience:

  • Extensive in-depth knowledge and experience with the processes and controls applicable to the manufacture of assigned commodities, such as: steel stampings, aluminum, castings, motors, powdered metal, protectors, coils, and machining.

  • Broad knowledge of other commodities, their manufacturing processes, and controls.

  • Advanced statistics, problem solving, and process improvement techniques.

  • High level communication and leadership skills. Proficient at leading teams and projects.

  • Broad knowledge of Copeland Products such as product function /application, customer expectations, material properties.

  • Understanding/knowledge of Lean principles (Kaizen, Std work, Kanban, VSM, Continuous Flow, 5S+1, Poke-yoke, waste elimination)

  • For Development role: TPM (total productive maintenance), takt-time, OEE (overall equipment effectiveness)

  • Sustainability (carbon footprint reduction efforts, ISO 50001)

  • PED (pressure equipment directive, (2014/68/EU)

  • 3D Drawing Model, interpret PMI data

  • Database mining and data analytics

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 30% domestic and international travel to suppliers and Copeland locations.
