Air Education and Training Command FITNESS AND SPORTS SPECIALIST (OPERATIONS MANAGER) in Sheppard AFB, Texas

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Fitness Center at Sheppard AFB, TX. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. At times will be required to work an uncommon tour to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Responsibilities Performs a variety of duties in support of the day-to-day operations of the Sheppard Air Force Base (SAFB) Fitness Centers (FC). Assists the Fitness and Sports Manager (FSM) and other functional leads in planning, developing, organizing and executing a variety of fitness and sports events and the daily operations of the Fitness and Sports Centers (FSC) IAW DAFI 34-114 Fitness, Sports and World Class Athlete Program. Submit requests for funds for the GPC, medical and base supply accounts with proper justifications to the RA. Reconciles the GPC bank account on-line with the Fitness GPC log and ensures all purchases are accurate and match. Approves all monthly billing statements for the GPC bank account and submits the monthly statements to the AO for approval and signature. Manages indoor and outdoor maintenance and performs building manager functions. Oversees custodial contracts or services, maintains repair records and manages supply accounts. Maintains accountability of exercise equipment IAW AFMAN 34-204. Conducts and documents weekly inspections of all operational areas assigned by the FSM. Exercises day-to-day management responsibilities. Provides oversight for the FD ops. Sets up and tears down athletic facilities, grounds and equipment for FS events and special programs. Greet visitors, answers telephones, make reservations for classes or use of equipment, facilities and provides information on scheduled events and classes. Provides facility-orientation tours and basic instruction to patrons in the proper use of exercise machines and equipment. Issues equipment and completes required documentation for transactions. Inspects returned items, noting any damage present. Inspects all equipment and facilities (indoor-outdoor) according to AF Occupational Safety & Health, Public Health, safety and fire standards. Reports equipment and facility discrepancies to supervisor and submits work orders for repairs. Performs a variety of operationally related duties to include, all supply inventories, internal controls management and management of all Force Protection Condition, safety, security other instructions or continuity binders and other related duties as assigned by the FSM. Informs management of any irregularities in employee attendance. Performs opening and closing procedures, hourly facility walk-throughs, and completion of assigned checklists IAW written guideline. Plan, coordinate and schedule minimum 8 events/year. Create and implement sports programs using existing facilities. Performs and other related duties as assigned. Qualifying Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in managing, developing, and implementing the daily operations of a FC is required. Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Strong administrative, computer and marketing skills are desirable. Ability to supervise, train and schedule subordinates. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. Must have demonstrated experience using personal computers with working knowledge of word processing, database management and spreadsheet programs. Must read, write and speak English fluently and be able to communicate effectively with patrons and co-workers. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. At times, will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Must successfully complete a National Agency Check w/ Inquires. Must retain Personal Training certification from AF-accredited program. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
