Nuvance Health Patient Service Technician / Phlebotomist - FT - Day in Sharon, Connecticut

Description

Summary: Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed. Responsibilities include blood cultures, blood samples, and other specimen collections. Population served is based on the scope of services of the laboratory.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible, utilizing appropriate equipment and following all safety protocols for task being performed (including PPE).

  • Assists in providing administrative support to the laboratory office by answering phones, registering specimens, and the accurate ordering of testing as per provider order.

  • Performs quality control on all laboratory specimens and paperwork at outside facilities to ensure accuracy in labeling and patient information as well as adequate/correct specimen for the tests ordered.

  • Transports all specimens in rigid, leak-proof containers, adhering to biohazard standards at all times, delivering items promptly within requested time frame.

  • Keeps laboratory vehicle(s) clean at all times; maintaining adequate fuel in laboratory vehicle(s) and advises Laboratory Manager of any issues with the laboratory vehicle(s).

  • Interacts professionally with all physicians, facility staff, and physician office staff. Refers complaints to department director if problem cannot be resolved immediately.

  • Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values.

  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

  • Performs other duties as required.

*Education and Experience Requirements: *

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Min 1 year of experience in various phlebotomy procedures, techniques and populations.

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certification preferred (current or eligible)

  • *Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. *

  • Must have current drivers’ license and have clean driving record.

**Working Conditions:

Manual: Some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Some occupational risk

Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
