The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse (RN) and integral member of the care team, responsible for delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves clinical expertise, independent judgment, and collaboration to ensure optimal patient outcomes. As a leader, advocate, and partner, the Professional Staff Nurse fosters strong relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers while upholding a commitment to excellence in nursing and community care.
Responsibilities:
Foster productive relationships with colleagues, patients, and external partners, demonstrating accountability, motivation, and cultural awareness.
Maintain a healthy work-life balance, model safe work hours, and communicate workplace safety concerns.
Educate patients, families, students, and new staff using adult learning principles; serve as a mentor or preceptor.
Develop and implement patient-centered care plans using the nursing process within the Relationship-Based Care framework.
Apply critical thinking to assess and address patients' clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs.
Communicate effectively with the care team, ensuring seamless coordination and comprehensive documentation.
Engage in continuous professional development and actively participate in unit-based shared governance and goal setting.
Adapt to change with flexibility, supporting process improvements and team collaboration.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying and addressing opportunities for enhanced patient care.
Utilize research and evidence-based practices to improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate patient care per department policies.
Apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving abilities in patient care.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Work effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment.
Possess physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
Experience: 0–2 years; BSN preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Licensure: Current RN license in the facility's state or a multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).
Certification: UPMC-approved national certification preferred.
CPR Requirement: Must obtain CPR certification (AHA standard) within 30 days of hire.
Graduate Nurses (GNs): Must pass the licensure exam within six months of hire or one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Failure to do so may result in termination or demotion.
Temporary Practice Permit (TPP): Valid for one year from graduation or until exam results are received.
