We’re seeking a commitment of at least one shift per week, with opportunities for additional hours over school breaks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with daily living activities, procedures, and therapies under RN supervision.

  • Perform core nursing assistant tasks, including vital signs, blood glucose checks, I&O, and specimen collection.

  • Conduct advanced skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, Foley catheter removal, and point-of-care testing.

  • Communicate effectively with healthcare teams and provide patient status updates.

  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and safety protocols.

  • Support patient mobility, transport, meal assistance, and comfort measures.

  • Document patient care accurately and complete clerical tasks as required.

  • Educate patients and families on care instructions per RN direction.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department projects.

  • Continuously seek professional development through feedback, training, and self-review

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • One of the following:

  • 1 year of healthcare experience, OR

  • 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, OR

  • Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with one clinical rotation, OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.

  • Completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class and basic system training.

  • Strong communication skills; microcomputer experience preferred.

  • EMT/Paramedic certification or enrollment preferred.

  • Medication access limited to nurse distribution.Certifications & Clearances:

  • BLS/CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire.

  • ACLS preferred
