Summary THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 FLIGHT ENGINEER (INSTRUCTOR) (MI AASF 2), Position Description Number NGD2753000 and is part of the MI AASF 2, Michigan Army National Guard. Responsibilities THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP This position is located at the AVCRAD/ Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Training Operations Branch. The purpose of the position is to instruct and perform flight crew work supporting heavy multi engine aircraft, and to aid the pilot in the overall operation of the aircraft. Primary aircraft include CH47F Chinook medium-lift transport helicopter, and/or UH60L/M/V Black Hawk transport helicopter. The aircrafts missions include combat service support airlift for movement of heavy supplies, vehicles, aircraft and equipment, troop air assaults, extractions and resupply of troops, and aeromedical evacuations, search and rescue, ice break, mine sweep, and air support of national disasters and state contingencies. 1. Serves as an instructor/flight examiner providing instruction, evaluation and examination on ground and operational training flights to develop and upgrade skills of aircrew members. Applying knowledge of the full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities, methods of instruction and requirements of the program, performs standardization. Ensures prescribed programs of instruction for aircrew training is adequately covered in terms of course content, coverage, and scope of material presented. 2. Provides training on in-flight planning and coordination responsibilities, operating principles and characteristics of major aircraft systems; aircraft parameters, operational/mission requirements, equipment systems operation/and troubleshooting, proper and correct methods of performing aircrew duties, e.g., use of aircraft performance charts, computation and aircraft weight and balance, techniques of aircraft internal loading, forms and records completion, arm and hand signals, ground handling of aircraft, use of ground equipment, techniques of normal and rapid (hot) refueling, armament rearming, passenger briefing, sling(external) loads, hoist operations, observer duties, and emergency procedures. 3. May perform duties of Flight Engineer which includes utilizing a knowledge of major aircraft systems associated with heavy multiengine aircraft. The interrelationships among these systems and capabilities of the aircraft. Incumbent provides assistance to the pilot in preflight planning, monitoring adherence to flight plan, and operating aircraft engines and a wide variety of aircraft control systems, e.g., engine, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, fire suppression, environmental, pressurization throughout the flight. 4. Uses, inspects, and maintains aircraft installed mission equipment such as recovery hardware, slings, litters, etc. Assists in familiarizing crew members with operating procedures. Indoctrinates crew by briefing on mission equipment and use of life support equipment and safety emergency procedures. Ensures carry-on weapons are cleared and café and that loose equipment, baggage and passengers are secured. * The above duty description doesn't contain all details of the official position description. Military Grades: E5 - E8 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-10 Level - Must possess specialized experience which includes the qualified in CH-47 also NRCM Flight Instructor/Standard Instructor (CH-47) 600-ASINl; Possess a high degree of technical competency in aircraft systems operations. Proficient in the principles of instructions, and demonstrate good judgment, patience, tact, and a desire to instruct; Knowledge of electrical, communications, navigation, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems applying to aircraft and related systems, flight theory, minor in-flight maintenance, personal equipment and oxygen use, aircraft emergency procedures, and using and interpreting diagrams, schematics, loading charts, technical publications, and flight manuals; Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare lessons, documents, and reports. Knowledgeable of methods of instruction, aircrew training program requirements, procedures, and standards of performance. Individual must be qualified OR willing and able to complete the NRCM Flight Instructor or Standardization Instructor (CH-47) course. Incumbent must be designated Flight Engineer "FE" on DA Form 7120 (Commander's Task List). A minimum of 250 hours is required to be eligible for this grade. (DA Form 759 must be submitted as proof of Individual Flight Record and Flight Certificate) Military Requirements: For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required. Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.
