About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary:

As a Quality Inspector, you will improve product quality, velocity, and cost by providing assistance to the assigned department in the form of data analysis, problem solving, and work validation in Seguin, Texas.  As a part of this team you will focus on providing support in a more proactive manner as well as identifying and leading continuous improvement projects.

What you will do:

  • Ensure that parts and materials used in the assembly process are free from quality defects

  • Assist other departments with problem solving or improvement ideas related to assembly

  • Verifying correct alignment of engine components using engine schematics and part prints

  • Inspect parts and materials to ensure they are free from quality defects

  • Perform audits and carry out quality inspections to correct known defects

  • Perform torque audits, leak tests, and visual inspection on all engines

  • Ensure that materials received and delivered are free from quality defects

  • Submit and assist with the resolution of C.P.S. Continuous Improvement cards

  • Follow standard operating procedures and area specific work instructions

  • Provide information to supervisors and managers about processes within assigned area

  • All other duties as assigned

What you will have:

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Understanding of rejection systems and coding

  • Ability to operate minimum 10% of quality gates for the facility of equivalent of Production Tech III requirements

  • Extensive engine function knowledge

  • Completion of CAV/Manufacturing best practice training

  • Shop floor manufacturing execution system (MES) knowledge

What would make you a top candidate?:

  • Experience with creation of standard work

  • Experience reading print and work instructions

  • Understanding of the DMAIC process

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods

  • Ability to perform repetitive operations

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

  • First Shift: Monday - Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm or Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with overtime opportunities
