Quest Diagnostics Inc Sr. Financial Analyst, Support Cost Finance (Hybrid) in Secaucus, New Jersey

The Sr. Financial Analyst will act as a Business Partner to various Support Cost functions within Enabling Support Cost model, supporting Legal and Compliance functions. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Support Cost Finance, this role has direct interaction with organizational leaders at VP and Director level and others throughout supported organizations. As the finance business partner to the supported functions, the Support Cost Finance SFA is responsible for accuracy of financial accounting and reporting, working closely with centralized accounting function to ensure maintenance of accurate financial information and performing analysis during and after the month end close process to understand the various matters and their potential outcomes that influence the monthly quarterly and annual financial performance.


  • Perform month-end close activities including preparing accounting entries (accruals, prepaids, reclassifications etc.) and monthly reporting packages with value-added insight
  • Engage Senior level staff regularly to drive behaviors around costs and headcount. This person will be asked to understand the business needs of specific functions and the drivers of spend, balanced against the need for spending controls, and then influence appropriate levels of spend in all areas, including expenses and capital. Recommend appropriate cost control initiatives, and drive adherence to these and other announced initiatives including hiring controls, spending controls, and capital spend request process
  • Interact closely with Senior Management team in preparing accurate and timely operating and capital budgets, analyze actual results vs. budget, identify risks / opportunities to be incorporated into monthly forecasts, monitor headcount statistics and drive best practices around cost containment to facilitate Quest Diagnostics overall growth plan
  • Enhance value-added monthly reporting package, incorporating run rate analyses, for the functional leaders that will drive behavior. Provide analysis to Senior leadership team to update on spending trends, watch-outs, issues, and drive actions to ensure appropriate behavior. Also, drive enhanced understanding of spend levels with Senior Manager and Director, Support Cost Finance
  • Ensure controls are in place to appropriately account for and safeguard assets and maintain compliance with Company policy and procedures and enforce compliance
  • Drive and support the development and implementation of departmental goals and organization structure including enhanced Reporting requirements

Education:

  • 4-Year College Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • CPA and/or MBA a plus

Work Experience:

  • 2 - 5 Years Related Finance Experience in a related industry, private accounting experience would be a plus
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of operational and financial processes and practical application of financial and strategic analysis
  • Strong Excel skills, including vlookups, pivots and macros
  • Experience with the PeopleSoft Financial Systems and Hyperion Essbase and Hyperion Planning a plus
  • Strong competencies including Problem Solving, Analytics & Customer Focus
