As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced

Tribal Engagement, Science Outreach, and Education Specialist

to join our team and support our staffing and recruiting operations.

This Position is a hybrid role, on site requirement 70% of the time at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, WA, or the associated Manchester Research Station, Manchester, WA.

Travel is anticipated to support field research, meet with collaborators, and present results at a regional workshop or scientific conference. Travel will be in WA, OR, CA, or ID. Personal Vehicle and valid Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

Lynker is currently seeking two Tribal Engagement, Science Outreach and Education Specialists to work with the National Marine Fisheries Service, Northwest Fisheries Science Center in either Manchester or Seattle. Travel to two additional regions will be required.

(One position out of Olympic Peninsula, and One position North of the Puget Sound, Travel between Northwest Fisheries Science Center and these two sites will be required.)

This position will build capacity for long-term habitat restoration monitoring by building and expanding collaboration between federal, tribal, state, educational, and community agencies in the areas they serve. This position will be responsible for increasing public and partner outreach efforts, enhancing scientific and traditional ecological knowledge exchange, creating and managing internships and volunteer opportunities, and advancing NOAA's diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates though target engagement. The goal of this position is to build capacity to expand collaborative and participatory long-term habitat monitoring over timescales that match the recovery trajectories of Pacific salmon and steelhead.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Gain Regional Expertise/Begin Pilot Implementation
  • Organize and facilitate listening sessions and training events within tribal and local communities, including the Skagit, Tulalip, and Elwha Tribes, to exchange information and garner support for salmon recovery efforts.
  • Participate in field sampling events alongside scientists, tribal representatives, community organizations, schools, and volunteers.
  • Conduct literature research on salmon and long-term monitoring projects involving non-professional participants.
  1. Educational Outreach
  • Collaborate in establishing community outreach connections with tribal partners such as the Skagit, Tulalip, and Elwha Tribes, and identify additional community contacts.
  • Support the expansion of internship opportunities in salmon and habitat research, prioritizing students from tribal and underrepresented communities.
  • Develop outreach materials and deliver presentations for K-12 schools, colleges, and community organizations.
