Job Summary

The Teacher, Early Learning Seattle Preschool Program provides classroom leadership in a Seattle Preschool Program, implementing the activities and curriculum for the classroom and supervising a group of children.

    Hiring Range: $22.00-$23.10/hour

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

  • Assists in planning and implementing culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.

  • May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.

  • Supports Lead Teacher in meeting the contract requirements, deadlines, and deliverables of the program associated with the City of Seattle contracts.

  • Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.

  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.

  • May fill-in for the Lead Teacher during short-term absences.

  • Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate classroom including appearance, décor, and cleanliness of site.

  • May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.

  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • One (1) year or more of experience working in a classroom environment with children kindergarten aged and younger.

  • Candidate must have an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or Child Development Associates Degree (CDA), or 20 hours of ECE college credits. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  • Current state approved first-aid certification.*

  • Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification.*

  • TB test by Mantoux method.**

  • HIV/AIDS training certification.*

  • Completion of minimum STARS required training. *

    *At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment.)

    **Prior to beginning child care duties.

    *At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than six months after employment.)

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
