U.S. Coast Guard Supervisory Vessel Traffic Management Specialist in Seattle, Washington

Summary This vacancy is for a Supervisory Vessel Traffic Management Specialist, GS-2150-12, located in Seattle, WA. Responsibilities You will serve as a Supervisory Vessel Traffic Management Specialist and be responsible for coordination of vessel traffic in an assigned geographic area in order to reduce the probability of collisions, Rammings, groundings, and associated environmental damage. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Supervision and coordination of a group of civilian and/or military Vessel Traffic Management Specialists during a shift. Take initial response actions for incidents, contacts appropriate personnel to respond, issue instructions personally or though subordinates or a representative of higher authority, coordinates efforts, and serves as contact point during incidents Monitors vessel reports, safety information broadcasts, and the transmission of information, advisories, and directions Considers a variety of factors, including but not limited to traffic density, Rules of the Road, regulations, vessel characteristics, traffic patterns, wind, weather, current, visibility, water depth, and their relationship to traffic situations in a rapidly changing environment to identify, anticipate, and resolve problems. Interfaces with co-workers, Coast Guard and other military officials, vessel operators, and maritime industry representatives to exchange information, provide assistance, provide recommendations and directions, facilitate communications between third parties, resolve problems or conflicts, facilitate logistics, and report violations of law or regulations. This is a non-Bargaining Unit position. Selectee must provide a valid state driver's license and safe driving record. Selectee subject to successful completion of pre-employment medical exam. Selectee subject to successful completion of drug testing. Time in Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: working in a transportation facility or terminal which involved utilizing Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of maritime vessels; promoting the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic; ensuring that vessel traffic is properly informed, advised, or directed in order to reduce the probability of collisions, rammings, groundings, and environmental damage; monitoring the progress of vessels, and informing, advising, or directing vessel operators; employing computers and communications technology to provide critical information and guidance to a master, pilot, or the persons in charge of vessels. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
