We are seeking a strategic, solutions-oriented, product safety and quality professional to play a pivotal role in supporting Starbucks merchandise and furniture quality management, with a focus on providing guidance and consistent execution of Product Safety programs in North America and Latin America markets, influencing cross-functionally and balancing multiple points of view. This position will work closely with cross-functional teams, Global Product Safety & Quality (GPSQ) partners, and suppliers while also having responsibility for ongoing consumer product safety requirements to ensure partner and customer trust in Starbucks safety and quality every day.

  • Professional Expertise – Leverage breadth of technical expertise to identify and translate details into appropriate insights and actions to support the business. Develop, implement, and monitor product safety and quality programs and standards and advise others on those programs.

  • Business Acumen & Problem Solving – Utilize a solution-oriented mindset and apply analytical thought to proactively address complex problems and identify innovative solutions, leveraging a thorough understanding of business dynamics to inform recommendations.Think outside the box and makes decisions informed by data and insights.Remain current on product safety & quality industry trends, engage with suppliers and outside experts to build momentum for key initiatives.

  • Prioritization & Planning : Develop comprehensive plans for complex projects and programs.Identify key hurdles and criteria for success.

  • Collaboration & Communication – Collaborate and influence cross-functionally.Effectively communicate recommendations and decisions to stakeholders and leaders.

  • Create standards, procedures and tools to leverage to assure that suppliers & facilities meet requirements. Implement SQ&PS training & programs

  • Apply in-depth technical knowledge to projects and gather insights (i.e., testing, supplier and product assessment)

  • Lead audits and qualify facilities. Confirm accuracy of supplier documentation and assess risk within the supply base. Ensure successful and timely completion of audits and corrective actions. Attend trials and commercialization runs, as needed.

  • Uses multiple sources of information to make recommendations with guidance from manager. Take a new perspective on existing solutions. Identify trends & lead investigations and resolution of product issues.

  • Proactively analyze product safety and quality metrics and customer complaints. Escalate issues to manager. Lead investigation and resolution of SQ&PS concerns from regulators, stores, internal/external stakeholders.

  • Understand and remain current on product safety and quality industry trends and practices. Adapt to learn new areas of the business.

  • Develop project plans. Identify key hurdles. Determine criteria for success. Recommend resources and timing.

  • Complete assigned work and goals and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Influence and build relationships within the department, cross-functional teams and suppliers.

  • Develop and deliver effective communication including content for presentations. Work to build alignment with team and leaders.

  • Collaborate and influence cross functionally and with suppliers to support Product Safety and Quality programs.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Education: 4-year degree preferred

  • Deep expertise (5+ years) in consumer product regulatory and product safety under the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Food & Drug Administration (food contact materials), and state regulations.

  • Experience with substantiation of product claims under the Federal Trade Commission, and capability to research, interpret, and provide guidance requirements for product claims.

  • Consumer product regulatory knowledge in Canada and other global markets is a plus, but not required.

  • Knowledge in consumer product labeling and packaging requirements is necessary.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise verbal, written, and visual presentations for leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to balance complex projects and priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to think creatively.

  • Strong problem-solving skills. Addresses problems constructively and takes action to resolve.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical ability.

  • Understands partnership culture with ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of GMPs.

  • Auditing experience & lean 6-sigma is a plus, but not required.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
