Amazon Software Development Manager, AWS Apps - POS in Seattle, Washington

AWS Applications and Higher Level Abstractions (Apps) provides horizontal and industry vertical applications for business users with the same on-demand scalability, reliability, pay-as-you-go pricing, and machine learning expertise that drive AWS services. The AWS Applications group includes services such as Amazon Connect (a cost-effective cloud contact center), our End User Computing (including Amazon Workspaces, AppStream, etc.), Marketing Tech (Amazon Pinpoint), and Autonomous Checkout and Identity Services (Just Walk Out, Amazon One) for retail, sports, travel, and other verticals.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to join the team responsible for building the next generation of checkout and fulfillment solutions for our e-commerce customers.

On our team, we are entrepreneurial, wear many hats, and work in a highly collaborative environment that feels more startup than big company. As a Software Development Manager, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges and mentor a team of talented engineers. Your team will invent, design, develop, and deploy highly scalable, reliable, and distributed new features. You'll work with a various core languages and technologies including Java, Typescript, and AWS Services.

You will take on challenging, novel situations every single day and given the size of this space, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven’t been solved at scale before - anywhere in the world. While we use existing Amazon systems when possible, you’ll be working on interesting problems that most likely have no off-the-shelf solutions. Along the way, we guarantee that you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

You'll need to be comfortable building prototypes, challenging assumptions, completing design and architectural reviews, and thinking of creative ways to solve problems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
