UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers, and research operations around the world. Data & Applications (D&A) is the division in UW-IT that runs the university’s academic and business systems, productivity platforms, enterprise integrations, learning analytics and data for decision-making and is also responsible for the accessibility of UW’s digital resources.

Academic Systems, a unit within UW-IT, develops and maintains Student Information Systems (SIS) software solutions that directly support the entire student lifecycle - admissions, academic planning, registration, financial aid, and student accounts - as well as academic support systems such as curriculum management tools. SIS actively partners with owners and users of these systems to evolve and modernize them (e.g. tri-campus business stakeholders, administrators, student advisers, and students themselves). Academic Systems also leads Teaching & Learning Systems that evaluate, develop, integrate, and support technologies that enable others to teach, learn, and innovate. These solutions and applications are used by students, faculty, staff, researchers, clinicians, and external partners.

The SIS Program is currently seeking a software developer with experience to build and support cloud web applications. This developer will be responsible for implementing, modifying features and performing maintenance/support for existing web sites and web applications. This Academic Systems has many complex, challenging, multi-campus projects encompassing the entire student body at the University of Washington. The incumbent is comfortable in an agile dev-ops environment and tools. They will work in a matrixed project structure, partnering as a member of a cross-functional team focused on delivering feature improvements in the product. This position participates in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. They work closely with other senior developers, subject matter experts, user experience designers and business analysts. This includes understanding requirements and specifications, developing design, implementing software solution/service, validation, documentation and ongoing service management. Successful candidate in this role is an experienced software developer with a track record of feature/component ownership involving designing, coding, testing and deploying services.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field or experience_.

  • Three (3) years’ experience performing core development tasks involving design, implementation and support of enterprise-wide applications and services

  • Experience in developing systems in Java, C#, .NET or Python etc.

  • Knowledge and experience in developing REST APIs and web services.

  • Proficient in Dev-ops and SDLC.

  • Experience using enterprise-wide databases (like MySQL, Nosql etc.).

  • Knowledge and skills in data collection and analysis using tools like SQM/Splunk/Tableau etc.

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and skills is essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to be successful and thrive in a highly collaborative environment

  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills and personal interaction abilities DESIRED:

  • Experience in building WebUI with javascript frameworks like React, Redux, Vue, Angular etc

  • Experience with code telemetry, data systems and analytics

  • Experience with using code automation tools and AI agents.
