Amazon Senior Technical Program Manager, Fleet Remediation Engineering in Seattle, Washington

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Fleet Remediation Engineering specializes in retrofit efforts that span several engineering disciplines and is applied across a variety of data center infrastructure designs. We align stakeholders to place a high focus on engineering design quality, implementation, and delivery of the most advanced, most difficult, and most ambiguous infrastructure retrofit efforts within the existing AWS data center community. By continuously mapping priorities defined via AWS’ Capital Improvement Prioritization Program (CIPP), we invest the proper time and effort into projects that achieve the largest bottom-line impact for the business. We are passionate about ensuring our latest innovations are implemented into our existing fleet to provide maximum benefit on behalf of our customers, and get our energy through challenge, innovation and design.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager to support our data center retrofit programs that modernize and improve our extensive data center fleet. The Sr. TPM will lead cross functional and technical teams to drive projects from concept to requirements definition, feasibility assessments, designs, implementation, testing, and deployment. Additionally, the Sr. TPM will lead initiatives associated with the global Fleet Remediation Engineering portfolio, developing or enhancing systems, tools, & mechanisms to streamline project delivery. At Amazon, along with technical strength, we expect our Sr. TPMs to interact with internal and external customers, partners and suppliers to understand our joint business goals and priorities, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality.

Amazon's vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, and this role is key to that vision. These capital improvements to our data centers are essential for meeting our customers’ expectations for service and value and meeting Amazon’s goals for efficiency, speed, and reliability as we continue expanding our data centers to hyper-scale. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage with cloud infrastructure at a large scale and the exceptional people that design and implement solutions and operate the infrastructure for the cloud.

Key job responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally strong communicator, both written and verbally, and possess 7-10+ years of experience in tactical project management of highly technical engineering initiatives, as well as strategic program management. Experience in managing data center infrastructure deployments, R&D projects, and understanding of SQL data bases is a plus. A Bachelor's Degree or additional technical experience is required. Candidates possessing a background in architecture/design, mechanical/electrical engineering, data center infrastructure/operations, and/or construction, who have transitioned to a program management discipline will have a distinct advantage.

Candidate must be comfortable managing conceptual development efforts, remote project delivery teams, and possess the ability to facilitate technical whiteboard sessions to troubleshoot project or initiative implementation issues, and remove barriers to project or initiative success. Being able to evaluate project or initiative feasibility, create cross-functional matrix-based teams, establish trust with a variety of stakeholders across multiple time zones, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project or initiative delivery is a must.

The TPM will be fully competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the project lifecycle and exhibit demonstrated proficiency in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.

Other requirements include proficiency with MS Office, MS Project and MS SharePoint. Experience with Tableau, PowerBI, Procore, SQL, Smartsheet, and systems integration a plus.

A day in the life

Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for engineering, development, finance, integration, and operation of these complex capital improvement programs and affiliated systems. You prioritize your activities to support and understand the projects’ status, solve problems and blockers, and focus on the actions that are most impactful for program success. You will also interface with the data engineers and business intelligence engineers to deep dive the data infrastructure (data tables, data pipelines, data sources, etc.) and lead initiatives that impact the global Fleet Remediation Engineering portfolio.
