Olson Kundig Senior Staff Accountant in Seattle, Washington

Currently, we are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join our dedicated accounting team.

Position Summary

This Senior Staff Accountant position plays a critical role in supporting month-end close, preparing balance sheet schedules, managing federal, state, and city taxes, forecasting budgets, and producing accurate financial reports. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and comfortable working under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and efficient completion of accounting and financial tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Month-End Close

  • Lead the execution of the month-end close process, including recording journal entries and transactions, and ensuring the accuracy of monthly financial statements.

  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements for all company bank accounts.

  • Research discrepancies, make corrective entries, and resolve issues as they arise.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for the reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

  • Process intercompany billing entries and consolidate financial statements.

  • Provide support for all internal and external financial audits.

    Financial Reporting

  • Maintain balance sheet schedules for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, right-of-use leases, allowances, debt schedules, receivables, benefits, and suspense accounts.

  • Collaborate with the AP team and other departments to manage new equipment leases and related right-of-use documentation and payments.

  • Coordinate new loans and regularly update debt schedules as needed.

  • Review all general ledger transactions for accuracy, and reclassify transactions as needed.

  • Prepare quarterly consolidated balance sheet and income statements.

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly shareholder reports.

  • Produce ad-hoc accounting reports and analysis as needed, in collaboration with the Accounting Manager.

    Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and file all state, city, and other jurisdictional taxes in accordance with applicable deadlines and regulations.

  • Provide tax-related documents and information to external tax review teams for accurate tax filings.

  • Research and comply with the tax requirements for new jurisdictions.

     

    Overhead Budget Review & Forecasting

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by reviewing and validating departmental budget reports for accuracy and alignment with financial goals.

  • Collaborate with department managers and cross-functional teams to gather budget inputs.

  • Assist in preparing financial forecasts, including cash flow projections and expense analysis.

  • Ensure budget reports and forecasts are distributed to budget managers in a timely and accurate manner.

    Additional Duties and Projects

  • Assist with various general accounting tasks and ad-hoc projects as needed.

  • Produce and maintain process documentation for staff accounting procedures.

  • Support the accounting team in implementing process improvements and maintaining compliance with internal controls.

    Education/Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in accrual-based accounting, with increasing responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of tax filings and tax compliance for federal, state, and city jurisdictions.

  • Experience with financial audits and regulatory reporting.

  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and ERP systems.

  • Familiarity with Deltek Vision software is a plus, but not required.

    As a firm, we are committed to pay practices that are fair, competitive, and reflect internal pay equity. At the time of posting this job, the hiring range for this position in Seattle is between $80,000 and $95,000 annually.  Final salary decisions are made based upon the extent and relatedness of the candidate’s education and experience and considering internal equity and external market factors.
