This job contributes to Starbucks success by performing complex accounting functions, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. This role also serves as a subject matter expert in inventory and cost accounting, supporting cross functional teams and projects. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
As a senior accountant, Inventory and Cost Accounting, you will…
• Maintain and develop various accounting systems and processes. Recommend and implement ideas and innovations to improve upon existing systems, work processes and procedures affecting month-end and quarter-end financial close, account analysis preparation and financial reporting.
• Actively engage in cross-functional settings to represent department interests
• Assist manager with training of less experienced accountants and facilitates cross-training among the team.
• Assist in prioritizing work and coordination of special projects or audits. Inform and advise management on issues, seeking assistance to escalate issues as appropriate.
• Prepare and distribute financial reports; interpret account information and reports for customers. Support customers through ad-hoc data collecting, reporting, analysis and special projects.
• Set up and maintain accounting and fiscal control records. Create, prepare and review journal entries that are accurate and compliant with company policies and applicable accounting regulations. Produce financial statements, revenue projections, cost/benefit analyses or other reports and review for accuracy. Reconcile accounts or review account reconciliations prepared by others. Create and maintain documentation on processes and procedures related to account maintenance.
• Research new or existing accounting guidance for business transactions. Summarize and recommend appropriate accounting approach to management.

Basic Qualifications
• 4+ years general accounting experience at a professional level, including journal entries, account reconciliations and reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
• Experience preparing audit schedules and providing audit support.
• Demonstrated ability to trace transactions from subledger to general ledger.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work through complex problems with cross functional teams, specifically in accounting and system support.
• Ability to interact with a variety of people at all organizational levels
• Experience with general ledger systems (e.g. Oracle or other ERP).
• Ability to prioritize and document work performed.
• Advanced analytical skills.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
If you live in the greater Seattle area, we offer a flexible workplace that allows for hybrid work. Partners can work remotely up to two days per week.
The pay range for this position may be narrower than that displayed, depending on where the work is performed.
