The Behavioral Health Float Pool is part of UW Medicine's Center for Behavioral Health and Learning - a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive facility designed to transform the way we approach mental health care.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Day shifts (7:00am - 7:30pm)

  • 3x12 shift schedule

  • Provide nursing care to a variety of behavioral health patients DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Our Behavioral Health Float Pool provides ad hoc and ongoing nursing coverage across all of our behavioral health floors, including our geriatric floor, our medical-surgical behavioral health floor, our involuntary long term civil commitment floor. This is a great opportunity to use your nursing expertise in a role where no two days are alike. ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning , which opened on the UW Medical Center – Northwest campus in 2024, offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state. Located in North Seattle, the new facility features 75 longer-term adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program. It also houses an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State. (https://facilities.uw.edu/projects/behavioral-health-teaching-facility) PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide nursing support on our inpatient psychiatric units during urgent and emergent situations

  • Collaborate closely with the nursing supervisor to triage and prioritize patient needs

  • Provide safe, therapeutic care for patients with complex behavioral health needs

  • Deliver direct patient care, including crisis intervention, de-escalation, and therapeutic communication

  • Administer medications, perform assessments, and conduct interventions following established protocols

  • Actively participate in emergency management, which includes responding to behavioral codes, rapid response calls, and critical situations

  • Engage in committees and continuing education programs relevant to behavioral health nursing REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 year of recent inpatient psychiatric nursing experience

  • Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State

  • Active BLS

  • Must be willing to work with geriatric psychiatric patients
