Olson Kundig Quality Control Manager - Architecture in Seattle, Washington

Currently, we are seeking an Quality Control Manager in our Seattle Studio who can help contribute to the overall excellence of work coming from Olson Kundig.

Position Description:

The Quality Control Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the excellence and integrity of Olson Kundig’s work. Reporting to the Director of Project Delivery, this role requires consistent engagement with project design principals, project managers, and other key stakeholders to limit project documentation risks and elevate the quality of the firm’s deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities

Engagement

  • Function as a quarterback for the entire QC process.

  • Outreach to individuals and projects teams to advise, mentor and reason to practical solutions.

  • Elevate and communicate technical, procedural and project execution risks to Olson Kundig’s Principal / Stakeholders.

  • Establish a culture of mentorship and curiosity for technical and procedural problem solving.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Olson Kundig’s key staff in Seattle, Chicago and New York.

  • Maintain and manage documentation, knowledge sharing, and lessons learned in the company’s internal intranet system.

  • Establish a concise communication process for project teams to convey their questions, frictions and needs to the Quality Management team.

  • Facilitate lessons learned sessions at project completion to integrate feedback into future processes.

    Implementation

  • Ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) protocols. 

  • Provide QA/QC support and training to project teams before project initiation. 

  • Establish and oversee quality control procedures during project design phases, and participate in Quality Control reviews. 

  • Develop and maintain QA/QC documentation and reporting systems.

  • Ensure project teams are provided with proper support by developing consultant and specialty subject matter expert relationships.

  • Lead the development and refinement of quality benchmarks and performance metrics.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the organization by promoting best practices in QA/QC.

  • Coordinate with project Managers to ensure that quality objectives are met throughout the project lifecycle. 

  • Conduct periodic project reviews with Olson Kundig staff and 3rd Party stakeholders to Identify and elevate design serviceability risks.

    Education/Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in the A/E/C sector.

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience with Design Documentation, and Construction Administration.

  • Preconstruction and Construction Experience within multiple building types.

  • Working knowledge of building science practices

  • Proficient in Project Management Information Systems software, and Industry standard digital design tools; (e.g. Autodesk Suite, PMiS software) 

  • Strong understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its application in QA/QC processes

  • Deep understanding of construction practices and rigorous design ethic.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee multiple projects and teams.

  • Capability to use digital tools for QA/QC documentation and reporting.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to Architecture and Construction quality.

  • Knowledge and experience with specifications and affiliated specification tools

    As a firm, we are committed to pay practices that are fair, competitive, and reflect internal pay equity. At the time of posting this job, the hiring range for this position in Seattle is between $110,000 and $125,000 annually.  Final salary decisions are made based upon the extent and relatedness of the candidate’s education and experience and considering internal equity and external market factors.
