Port of Seattle Police Sergeant in Seattle, Washington
Some of what you'll be doing:
As a Police Sergeant, you will supervise police officers and/or civilian employees engaged in the performance or support of patrol, criminal investigations, or other related police operations.
You will lead, coach, direct, guide, develop, and supervise assigned police officers to resolve policing issues, ensure subordinates have the resources necessary to complete the job, review and recommend personnel actions including commendations and disciplinary action.
You will review and observe the work of assigned personnel to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
You will review and evaluate work products of assigned personnel for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established standards and identify deficiencies and/or training needs.
You will support the Chief in all personnel management issues, including appointments, promotions, demotions, suspensions, assignments and transfers of staff.
You will be responsible for the management of any assigned team or unit and evaluate the effectiveness and facilitate the attainment of department goals.
You will make decisions and recommendations through the chain of command that affect the direction, outcome, and mission of the department.
You will establish and maintain effective channels of communication with citizens, customers, and Port personnel.
You will act as a liaison to other Port departments, government agencies, and businesses affected by the departmental operations.
You will participate in meetings with high-level officials from the Port, other jurisdictions, planning bodies, and representatives of various community groups.
You will support the preparation of short- and long-term plans for the department, including budget, staffing/personnel, equipment, facilities, strategic and tactical planning.
You will conduct meetings and briefings to provide discussion and direction on programs, policies and procedures.
You will prepare a variety of reports (statistical, activity, administrative, etc.) as required. You will also review and analyze administrative and record keeping reports, special projects, research and analytical or statistical reports.
You will review and analyze studies such as crime trend, traffic pattern, and program analysis.
Who you are:
Experienced – You have Minimum five (5) years of commissioned law enforcement experience in a police department, and a permanent (non-probationary) officer and you can Obtain Washington State Supervisory Management Certification within one year of hire.
Background Investigation – You must pass a background investigation that includes a complete criminal records check, a polygraph examination, a medical examination and a psychological examination.

What else you need to know:
Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.Work Schedule –You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
