As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. This opportunity is for aThermal Hardware Engineering Managerwithin the Thermal Integrated Product Team (Thermal IPT) of theLunar Transportationbusiness unit. This person will lead the Thermal Component team or the Thermal Design team within the Thermal Hardware group. 20-30% of your time will be dedicated to personnel/team management (hiring, performance reviews, time cards, mentoring, etc.) while the other 70-80% will be as a senior-level individual contributor to the hardware engineering efforts on the thermal subsystem. Responsibilities: Responsible for leading the Thermal Component Team or Thermal Design team within the Thermal Hardware group. Perform personnel management including performance reviews, time cards, training, etc. Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team. Manage your direct reports' professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management) Own one or more thermal components or hardware from conception, through internal or external development, detailed design, testing, and integration with the spacecraft. Generate hardware specifications, test plan/execution/reports, occasional thermal analysis, short/long term development plans, and make/buy decisions. Manage technical progress, budget, schedule, deliverables and risks for assigned thermal hardware. Manage vendors and subcontracts for thermal hardware. Qualifications: 5+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience Solid understanding of thermal/heat transfer fundamentals Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware Demonstrated experience building and testing spacecraft hardware Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or similar Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching employees. 8+ years of experience in thermal engineering for spacecraft systems Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters Familiar with agile project management. Experience in safety-critical aerospace vehicle certification processes. Experience managing subcontracts. Compensation range
