Position Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, internal and external reporting, and analysis in their respective area of responsibility. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in accounting principles, and the ability to work cross-functionally across the business.

General Ledger Team

The Accounting Manager for the General Ledger Team plans and coordinates close activities to ensure timely completion of the financial close process. This position oversees the non-revenue accounts in the general ledger, while also managing the payroll and accounts payable processes.

Revenue Team

The Accounting Manager for the Revenue Team oversees the revenue operations and revenue recognition process at Adaptive. This position is responsible for revenue recognition in compliance with accounting standards, including preparing, reviewing, and analyzing revenue models and determining proper accounting for customer contracts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a high-performing team that supports a dynamic company environment through coaching, role modeling, and being agile in times of ambiguity
  • Set high-impact team goals in alignment with corporate goals to deliver strategic results
  • Review and oversight of accounting workpapers including journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules and analyses
  • Identify and interpret trends and explain fluctuations including any business drivers
  • Work cross-functionally to support and oversee process changes that encourage standardization and automation while verifying the completeness and accuracy of information
  • Support the preparation of company financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Engage with internal and external auditors, verifying they have all necessary documentation
  • Document accounting positions on complex matters
  • Provide technical accounting oversight for control design and operation to maintain a system of internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley
  • Support business development activities to ensure future accounting matters are considered in transaction planning
  • Provide oversight directly or indirectly to accounting projects, functions, and/or team members
  • Address complex inquiries from teammates, cross-functional partners and customers
  • Educate other finance team members on technical accounting matters to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and assist with entries as needed

Qualifications

BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent

CPA or equivalent certification preferred

8+ years' experience; experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm, public company, or equivalent preferred

Excellent understanding of US-GAAP, FASB codification, SEC reporting requirements and a broad knowledge of technical accounting matters

Experience working in the Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Research & Development, or Medical Device industries preferred

Strong people leadership skills and ability to coach, mentor, and develop future leaders

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
