University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest – Radiology - BREAST IMAGING CLINIC has an outstanding opportunity for a MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST SUPERVISOR WORK SCHEDULE • FULL-TIME; 100% FTE
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS • Organizes workflow, oversees day-to-day operations, and manages personnel, equipment, and supplies to ensure efficient functioning, quality services, and cost effectiveness of assigned section(s).
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION • Advanced imaging and diagnostic services in North Seattle • Radiology at UWMC-Northwest is equipped with the advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin. • We take time and attention with each patient to explain procedures, so they’ll know what to expect every step of the way. • Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.

Clinical/Operations/Technical Coordination, includes: • Directing daily work activities: Prepares employee schedules and prioritizes daily work activities. Identifies and plans for short and long-term staffing issues and proactively takes appropriate action. Evaluates patient flow and makes adjustments. Assists with staff coverage issues in other sections of DI by sharing/floating staff as needed, enabling efficient resource utilization. Assigns and checks work; assists staff with problems and questions. Acts as expert technical resource. Ensures prompt and accurate reporting of patient exam results; monitors technical quality of exams and other departmental output; uses technical knowledge of RIS/PACS to evaluate image quality. Establishes and updates exam procedures, protocols and policies. Reviews management reports and takes appropriate action. • Staff supervision: Forms, manages, and maintains an effective team of employees. Trains, develops and assesses skills and manages performance. Maintains job descriptions, manages attendance and timekeeping. Presents in-service education programs; organizes and participates in conferences and technical meetings. Monitors compliance with all department and hospital safety procedures, competency and educational requirements. • Provides support and diagnostic exam coverage: During short staffing, to maintain skill levels, or as needed, performs diagnostic exams in assigned area. Supervises or performs particularly complex and/or unusual procedures. Assists with support and other duties (e.g., transporting, RIS/PACS support, Soarian order triage, EPIC scheduling) as needed. Acts as “super-user” for departmental computer applications, as assigned. • Facilities, Equipment and Supplies: Schedules, coordinates, and performs (or oversees) calibration and maintenance on equipment. Maintains equipment documentation such as calibration, maintenance, and service invoices. Troubleshoots equipment and resolves problems. Recognizes serious or uncorrectable problems and contacts manager and vendor in timely manner. Coordinates purchase and installation of new equipment, products, and software. Acts as liaison with equipment vendors. Inventories and orders supplies and linens. Coordinates building maintenance/repair issues with Facilities/Property Management. • Quality Control/Assurance and Accreditation: Maintains appropriate documentation and records necessary for accreditation by Joint Commission or other regulatory/accrediting bodies. Maintains survey readiness. Ensures that all department procedures and policies are in compliance. Monitors Quality Assurance data and takes prompt action when problems occur. Notifies director or manager in a timely manner of issues that supervisor cannot resolve. • Committee Participation: Serves as a member of hospital committees, task forces, working groups, as appropriate. • Collaboration: Serves as consultant or liaison to (and coordinates patient care with) other clinical service areas (such as nursing, ED), ordering physicians, radiologists, scheduling, etc. Assists radiologists with problem solving. Provides coverage for manager and other supervisors in their absence. Facilitates bi-directional communication and information sharing between staff and management. • Planning: Evaluates products and/or services and makes recommendations for purchase, changes in procedures, etc., to improve patient care and/or decrease cost. Assists Manager and Director with capital equipment/project planning, including financial and clinical justifications. Participates in development, planning, implementation and review of new programs or services; leads planning and implementation meetings as requested. Assists Manager in special projects. Provides data and statistics to Manager and Director for planning and decision making. Assists Manager with developing marketing and outreach plans to increase patient volumes. • Optimizes Productivity: Maintains a cost effective department through the proper selection/inventory of supplies, expense control, and appropriate levels of staff for workload volume. Optimizes production, increases efficiency, decreases costs. Operates department within budget.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training program in an AMA approved school; registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) AND registered or registry-eligible in an equivalent specialty area
- One year of experience performing the work of an Imaging Technologist Lead in the relevant specialty service area(s) OR Equivalent education/experience.
Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist.
