Blue Origin LLC Fluid Systems Engineer I in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will develop and test cryocoolers designed for zero-boiloff (ZBO) applications. Your role will be to collaborate with other ZBO team engineers and technicians in the design, development, procurement, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of these cryocoolers and the components thereof. This position is based in Kent, WA. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist in the development of cryocooler components Assist in component- and system- level thermodynamic analyses and trade studies for design optimization Effectively communicate analytical results and effects of design changes on component and system performance Assist in developing test plans and procedures for component, subsystem, and integrated cryocooler testing Execute test procedures involving pressurized cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systems Review and interpret test data to assess performance and health both at the system and component level Contribute to or author test reports Participate in design, data, and/or test readiness reviews Ensure work is completed in accordance with Blue Origin policies and procedures Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering Knowledge of fluid flow and heat transfer fundamentals Knowledge of systems utilizing one or more of: liquid or gaseous hydrogen, oxygen, helium, nitrogen, and water, including the ability to perform fluid/thermal analyses as needed Strong written and interpersonal skills Desire to take ownership of projects Strong personal commitment to safety Ability and desire to understand complex systems, investigate and solve challenging problems, and work in a dynamic environment Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications 1+ years' experience with fluid/thermal system development and testing Product-development experience Experience in one or more of the following areas: Cryogenic fluid systems Thermodynamic cycle analysis Heat exchanger design, analysis, and/or test Turbomachine design, analysis, and/or test Pressurized gas systems Vacuum systems Fluid and/or thermal analysis experience using Ansys, Thermal Desktop, or MATLAB Experience operating test equipment and/or safely handling hazardous commodities Experience with developing, writing, and updating technical procedures, standards, and specifications Compensation range for on-site WA applicants is $75,510-$105,71 Other site ranges may differ Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $75,510.00-$105,714.00 Other site ranges may differ Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
