Position Overview

The EH&S Manager is:

  • Responsible for EHS programs and audits ensuring compliance across Adaptive.
  • A visible EHS advocate playing a pivotal role in building the influence and impact of EHS as a strategic partner in risk decisions.
  • Provides technical and regulatory expertise to senior leaders to ensure that sites comply with applicable laws, conforms to company standards, and utilizes best industry practices to manage safety risks to people, property, and the environment.
  • Directs continued timely, accurate and relevant reporting of EHS data to enable business decisions within their business area(s). Ensure delivery to KPIs/metrics and cost efficiencies with Service Providers.
  • A Safety Officer during disaster/emergency response and recovery efforts. May be required to serve as EHS Advisor (technical expert) for the emergency response team during company-related emergencies.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Safety Program Oversight: Author and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other safety related documents. Provide guidance and technical assistance to all employees in identifying, evaluating, and correcting safety hazards. Provide new hire safety orientation and refresher training as needed. Capture and upload required staff safety documentation. Serve on the Health and Safety Committee, maintain membership of the Health and Safety Committee. Ensure contractors, consultants and visitors receive safety training. Manage the content of the EHS SharePoint site.
  • Chemical Safety: Manage Safety Data Sheets, inspect and ensure chemicals, reagents and chemical waste are labeled appropriately. Update the chemical inventory twice as needed. Provide chemical spill response training to staff.
  • Biological Safety: Ensures staff who ship biohazardous materials are trained and the documentation is on file. Provide biological spill response training to staff.
  • Waste Management: Ensures biohazardous and chemical wastes are handled appropriately by lab staff. Coordinate with waste contracting companies regarding service and oversight of waste streams.
  • Fire and Life Safety: Ensure annual building evacuation drills are performed; assign and train floor wardens to support building evacuations. Create and post safety signage as required.
  • Personal Protection Equipment: Working with Supply Chain, ensure PPE are stocked available to staff, oversee apparel program and prescription safety glasses program. Ensure spill kits, first aid kits and AEDs are properly stocked and maintained.
  • Occupational Hygiene: Maintain the occupational health and safety program and document "at risk" employees are offered appropriate vaccinations. Investigate accidents, near misses, incidents, perform air monitoring as required.
  • Ergonomic Health: perform ergonomic assessments and provide ergonomic peripherals as appropriate.
  • Environmental: Support corporate ESG reporting of EH&S related data. Promote environmental stewardship by maintaining or establishing new processes for recycling and repurposing of materials. Oversee universal waste program.
  • Building Security: Maintain laboratory staff listing for security team, performs card key reviews.
