Key statistics: 950+ Consultants 640+ Ph.D.s 90+ Disciplines 30+ Offices globally Our Opportunity Exponent's Polymer Science & Materials Chemistry Practice is currently hiring a Scientist/Associate to join our consulting staff in our Seattle, WA office. In this role you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team contributing to a diverse set of projects from industries such as construction, consumer products, infrastructure, and manufacturing. Candidates should have an advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent), with related industrial experience considered a plus.This position requires strong technical communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the desire to learn concepts that may be adjacent to the candidate's core expertise. This position also requires some travel and will involve collaboration with scientists and engineers from other Exponent offices and practices. The successful candidate will possess extensive practical knowledge of the physical, chemical and mechanical behavior of polymer systems as well as experimental design related to material characterization. A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead technical teams and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. A long-term goal for a successful candidate will be to develop business by obtaining new projects and bringing new clients to the firm. You will be responsible for Inspections, scientific analysis, and testing to understand the performance of material systems and the processes by which they are made Following established test protocols and developing new test protocols to characterize products at lifecycle stages ranging from product development to maturity Performing root cause investigations on failing or underperforming materials/components by scientifically examining the development, manufacturing, and end-use environment of products such as those specified for use in the construction, consumer electronics, and manufacturing industries Analyzing information and conveying technical findings to individuals in engineering, business, law, and industry, as well as communicating testing rationale in the context of product development, product defect claims, and construction defect disputes You will have the following skills and qualifications Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field Ability to clearly co
