OVERVIEW The School of Nursing Simulation Center is a 7500-square-foot space with 3 simulation labs, two large skills labs, 4 exam rooms, and additional debriefing spaces. Our programs provide students with the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into safe clinical experiences using realistic patient scenarios. The UW SoN Simulation Center supports undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on skills training and simulated “real-life” experiences, enhancing their confidence and providing real-time human and technological feedback about the development of their psychomotor, assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and diagnostic skills.

POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Director of Simulation, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing the operational oversight for simulation at the UW SoN Simulation Center on a day-to-day basis. The Assistant Director ensures all simulation-based activities for training, assessment and change management purposes are aligned with the center’s strategic goals and mission and provide optimal experience for internal and external clients. This role is responsible for ensuring that the necessary operational resources such as space, equipment and simulators are in place to provide an optimal simulated educational experience for learners and faculty and supervise up to 5 simulation staff

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operations: (60%)

• Oversee all aspects of day-to-day simulation operations, including scheduling, maintenance of simulation equipment and facilities, and coordination of simulation sessions.

• Supports the initiatives and goals of the Director of Simulation.

• Conduct vendor scans and stay informed about advancements in simulation technology, recommending investments and upgrades as appropriate. Works with vendors/contractors to get quotes and speak to updates and procurement requests.

• Ensures that simulation-based equipment purchases and technology demonstrate a return on investment as justified through data and are aligned with the underlying mission of the institution.

• Coordinate the procurement, maintenance, and inventory management of simulation equipment, supplies, and technology, ensuring their safe and efficient operation.

• Oversee the scheduling and utilization of simulation rooms, equipment, and resources to optimize their availability for educational activities.

• Ensure that the necessary operational resources, such as space, equipment, and simulators, are in place to provide an optimal simulated educational experience for learners and faculty.

• Develops inventory policies to ensure levels are maintained in a cost-effective manner and inventory control procedures to monitor supply levels.

• Provide technical support for task trainers, manikins of varying fidelity, AV systems, and equipment (beds/exam tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other healthcare equipment) to include maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting of equipment.

• Provide functional support in the delivery of simulation-based learning activities.Administrative (15%)

• Assist the Director of the Simulation Center in the development of policies and procedures related to Simulation-based training at the University of Washington’s Simulation Center for the SoN.

• Ensure compliance with relevant safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including maintaining documentation and records as required.

• Supervise and provide daily and weekly assignments of simulation staff (Simulation technologists, Simulation Program Director, Student workers).

• Participates in the hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of simulation center staff.

• Oversee the setup and take down of simulation laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure efficient and timely turnover of simulation spaces.Fiscal (10%)

• Assist in the development and management of the simulation and education budget, including forecasting expenses and ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.

• Collaborate with the Director of the Simulation Center to develop and implement a multiyear strategic budget, identify capital needs, and manage vendor contracts and warrantees.Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: (15%)

• Broad knowledge of clinical skills training, including the use of standardized patients and operations of low to mid-fidelity simulation technology in an academic healthcare education setting.

• Provides technical support to Simulation Technologists/Specialists to include the control of the manikins, AV technology, and patient monitors during scenario-based training sessions.

• Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including but not limited to faculty, students, patients, standardized patients, and the public.

• Expert knowledge about and experience in simulation technology in academic healthcare simulation settings.

• Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely, meticulous and professional manner, demonstrating initiative and creativity

• Other duties as assigned to support the center, school of nursing, and health system organization.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include some evening and weekend assignments to accommodate scheduled labs and events within the Simulation Center. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in a health care discipline, computer technology, education, or a related field.

• National certification in Simulation-based Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or ability to achieve within 1 year of employment.

• Minimum of two years’ experience in operations in health care simulation. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience with project management practices and processes. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of data analytics processes and using data to make strategic operational decisions.

• Background in Information Technology or demonstrated experience in providing technical support of AV operating systems, human patient simulators, and simulation equipment.

• Membership in state and/or national simulation initiatives and organizations.
