Commander, Navy Installations MWR Motor Vehicle Operator in Seal Beach, California

Summary This position is located in RV Park in Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. The purpose of this position is to operate vehicles such as step van/box trucks, vans, sedans, station wagons, and pick-up trucks for various operations. The purpose of the work is to provide general non-technical services. The work directly contributes to the military members, retirees, civilians, and family member's quality of life, mission readiness, and contributes to job satisfaction and retention of valuable members. Responsibilities Moderate effort is used in operating the controls of the vehicle. Considerable effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. The incumbent will operate vehicles within an approximate vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, supplies and/or equipment in support of Brewhouse operations. Responsible for loading vehicles and properly securing loads to prevent movement or damage in transit. Check material loaded or delivered against various documents to prevent errors. Certify the condition of the items and obtain signatures from receiving personnel and unload vehicle at destination. Sort, log, and deliver items. The incumbent will be held responsible for upholding local and state traffic regulations and US Navy rules and regulations while operating government vehicles over Federal, State, County, and city streets/roads in all traffic conditions. Incumbent is responsible for operator maintenance on all vehicles operated including but not limited to checking gas, monitoring fluid levels (washer fluid, oil, etc.), checking tire pressure, battery, lights, brakes, and maintaining the cleanliness of assigned vehicle. Submit request for tune-ups and/or needed repairs. Report any problem to the supervisor. Maintain records and documentation pertaining to operation of the motor vehicle. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Have experience and documented skills in operating a variety of motor vehicles such as sedans, station wagons, pickup trucks, and carry all vans to transport authorized personnel, materials, and/or equipment throughout the local area, over road surfaces including interstate highways, narrow country roads, steep winding grades, on federal and public roads, and other urban or rural areas, driving at highway speeds. Knowledge and skill to conduct preventive maintenance of vehicles. Position requires skills in handling vehicles, knowledge of safest route, safety rules, and all traffic regulations. Knowledge of passenger safety rules regarding the use of seatbelts. Ability to operate a computer sufficient enough to complete trip trickets, preventative maintenance records and accident reports. Must possess basic math and reading skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Demonstrate effective communication skills. Education A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Additional Information Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs. The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05. Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care. Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment. Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
