Choice Hotels Software Development Engineer in Test 2 in Scottsdale, Arizona

The Test Engineering is the team that is responsible for the quality of the choice hotel’s products we develop and deliver. As a key member of our Test Engineering department, you will be responsible to ensure the reliability, functionality, and quality of software systems and applications used in various aspects of the hospitality sector with primary focus on enhances guest experience, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency.

Your Responsibilities

  • Write, maintain, and develop tests for API, web, and/or mobile based applications. Prioritize work using issue tracking and backlogs.

  • Work with business to understand the functionality and translate requirements into test scenarios, create test cases, review with business stakeholders, execute the tests, perform the demos, and address the feedback gathered.

  • Document test steps, assertions, and dependent test data to ensure maintainability and repeatability of tests.

  • Attend standups and sprint ceremonies as part of an agile development team.

  • Work alongside developers and fellow QA team members to develop an automatable test plan based on current sprint requirements. After documenting and validating the test plan, it will be automated to fulfill the acceptance criteria of the user story.

  • Own and maintain test environments and test data. Integrate test environment provisioning and test data management into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast and efficient testing of new features and changes.

  • Work with development teams to identify and create realistic test data scenarios that cover a wide range of use cases and edge conditions.

  • Execute and analyze automated test results. Perform root cause analysis while documenting steps to reproduce. Write defects and communicate to the team any potential areas of impact. Automate tests related to identified defects after a fix has been provided.

  • Actively contribute to peer code review. Understand and work within existing automation frameworks. Work to leverage, improve, and contribute to framework functionality. Utilize various VCS, static linting, and code formatting tools to ensure consistency and continuity across projects.

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated software test engineering experience and/or bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Experience in testing API applications as well as UI applications is needed.

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud environments is preferred.

  • Experience with MySQL database and proficiency in writing SQL queries for testing purposes.

  • Experience working with Linux command line interface (CLI) is preferred.

  • Strong proficiency in writing Java or other Object-Oriented Programming language.

  • Working knowledge of dependency management.

  • Working knowledge of software orchestration tools such as Jenkins or Harness.

  • Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills.

  • Strong time management, and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.

  • The ability to self-learn and a desire to increase technical knowledge and skillsets.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Manager of Test Engineering. You will have 5-6 peer teammate(s) and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our SDET2, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art technology hub in Scottsdale, AZ. In October 2021, Choice opened a newly constructed world class technology center.

Right now, our associates in Scottsdale, AZ are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtual from your home office the remaining days.
