Responsibilities

The Bose Lab at the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/bose-suman-ph-d/bio-20549026 ) has postdoctoral fellowship positions available in the broad area of biomedical engineering. Our research lies at the interface of biomaterial science, cellular engineering, and drug delivery to create next-generation cell-based therapies for a wide range of human diseases. Our lab is developing micro- and nanoscale devices to interrogate fundamental mechanistic questions at the molecular, cellular, and tissue levels and apply these mechanisms to design new treatments for human diseases.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

We are primarily interested in candidates whose research interests and qualifications broadly align in one of the following areas:

A) Device engineering: Candidates will be involved in building engineered platforms to understand how biointerfaces govern tissue interactions. They will also build new cell therapy implants with advanced features for treating various chronic diseases. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related field and ideally have research experience in one or more of these areas: microfabrication, microfluidics, organ-on-chip systems, fluorescent microscopy, medical implant design, additive manufacturing, and 3D bioprinting. Experience with mammalian cell culture is required. Animal experience is preferred but not required.

B) Cellular and Immune engineering: Candidates will focus on developing new therapeutic cells and strategies to modulate their interactions with the host. Candidates should have an advanced degree (Ph.D./ M.D) in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or any related field. Ideally, candidates will have expertise in synthetic and systems biology, genome engineering, genetic screens, molecular cloning, drug delivery, biomaterials, and immune engineering.

The accepted candidate will be trained to work independently. They will be expected to design and execute experiments, collect, analyze, and process data, provide mentorship to other members of the group, and draft manuscripts for scientific journals. They will also have career development opportunities, including participating in conferences and applying for grants and fellowships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.

Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program.
