SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Paralegal Instructor. Under the general direction of the Dean of Business, Criminal Justice, and Law, the Paralegal Instructor position includes 15 credit-hours of teaching per semester in varying courses in the field of Paralegal studies. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have training and experience implementing student-centered instructional strategies and approaches in supporting student success. Other responsibilities include course development and assessment, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaborations. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach a full-time course load of legal courses
Prepare coursework and develop the syllabus for each course assigned in accordance with established SUNY Schenectady-approved curriculum and course outlines
Provide expertise in developing and revising courses
Work closely with Career Services to find partnerships with local law firms for internships and career opportunities
Teach the depth and scope of course content using engaging classroom methods to support students' mastery of course Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
Build enrollment and create partnerships with transfer institutions and high schools
Hold regularly scheduled office hours to provide student support
Participate in the assessment, revision, and development of curricula and instructional methods
Convene an advisory committee each semester using published guidelines
Participate in college governance, committees, and division-level efforts including, but not limited to, retention, recruitment, and program review
Model lifelong learning, focus on consistent improvement of instructional practice (engage as a reflective practitioner), and actively engage in independent and college- offered professional development to increase knowledge in one's content area and teaching methods
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's degree or higher in Legal Studies or a related legal degree
At least two years of experience in a law practice working with paralegals
At least one year of college-level teaching experience, preferably at a community college
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body
Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree (J.D.)
Paralegal teaching experience at the community college level
Experience with online instruction
Experience in program assessment
