What impact you will make:

As a member of the Battery Energy Storage Systems team you will be an active contributor in supporting the commissioning process for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) products. The intern will assist in reviewing and improving existing commissioning procedures, as well as providing hands-on support during the commissioning of BESS systems.

Job Description

What You will Do:

  • Thoroughly examine current commissioning procedures for BESS products.

  • Identify areas for improvement, such as streamlining processes, enhancing clarity, or incorporating new industry standards.

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to gather feedback and insights.

  • Assist in creating or updating commissioning checklists, documentation, and protocols.

  • Ensure that procedures align with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and company standards.

  • Contribute to the development of standardized templates and guidelines.

  • Provide on-site or remote support during the commissioning of BESS systems.

  • Assist with data collection, testing, and verification activities.

  • Document findings, observations, and any issues encountered.

  • Review and analyze commissioning data to identify patterns, trends, or areas of concern.

  • Contribute to the development of data-driven insights to improve future commissioning processes.

  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, and other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination.

  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Internship Term Dates:

Spring Opportunities: January - April 2025

Summer Opportunities: May/June - August 2025

Fall Opportunities: September - December 2025

Expected Work Schedule:

Day/1st -Shift (40 - hours weekly)

What You’ll Bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (without rounding)

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Enrolled in a full time matriculated and nationally accredited baccalaureate or graduate program Enrolled in a full time matriculated and nationally accredited baccalaureate or graduate program

Other Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must be able to develop and maintain good customer relationships

  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

  • Must be willing to work in geographical area specified by the business

  • Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, power electronics, and battery technology.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • A passion for renewable energy and energy storage.

  • Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and energy storage control systems (ESCS).

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, UL).

  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB).

  • Previous internship experience in a related field.

The pay for this position ranges from $21.00/hr - $34.00/hr based on years of undergrate/graduate field of study completed

This position is also eligible for:

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.

  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.

  • Employee Assistance Program , providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services

  • GE Retirement Savings Plan (RSP ) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans. (Eligibility occurs on the 1st of the month following the 90th day.)
