Position Summary: The Production Control Packaging Engineerplays a vital role in optimizing the packaging process to improve efficiency and product protection within the industrial production processes, including inventory control, logistics, meta-analysis, and production coordination in the manufacturing facility. They are responsible for designing, testing, developing, evaluating, and implementing packaging solutions within the manufacturing process. They possess strong technical and problem-solving skills, creativity in packaging design, knowledge and understanding of various packaging materials and methods, a keen eye for detail, a commitment to environmental sustainability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, review, and approve packaging for supplier material delivery.
  • Design, review, and approve rack/dolly for material lineside transportation and storage.
  • Maintains dolly inventory condition while scheduling cycle and repairs of dolly inventory.
  • Maintains mobile equipment inventory condition while scheduling and coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance (PM).
  • Choosesthe most suitable packaging materials based on product specifications, product fragility, weight, cost considerations, and environmental impact.
  • Evaluatespackaging costs and finds cost-effective solutions without compromising product protection and quality and safety requirements.
  • Implementsquality control measures to ensure that packaging materials and methods meet industry standards and product specifications.
  • Collaborateswith packaging material suppliers, negotiatescontracts, and maintainssupplier relationships.
  • Developssustainable packaging strategies and practices to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.
  • Managesinventory of packaging materials to ensure a consistent supply for production needs.
  • Continuously improvespackaging processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline operations.
  • Workscross-functionally with production teams, EHS, Quality, and logistics personnel to coordinate packaging efforts in the manufacturing process and resolve packaging-related issues.
  • Maintainsportfolio, detailed records, and documentation related to packaging materials, costs, design specifications, and quality control.

Qualifications and Preferences:

Required

:

  • Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Diverse knowledge of various packing materials, applications, and design.
  • Experience in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high volume automotive industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office expertise.
  • Experience with SAP ERP.

Travel Requirement:

  • Domestic / International travel required

Working Hours (Shift) Requirement:
