Neighborhood Improvement Association Office and Volunteer Administrator in Savannah, Georgia

Tax Responsibilities

Become IRS Advance Certified Tax Preparer as outlined by VITA as well other required tax law certifications. (NIA will provide training)

Work long hours during tax season, include nights and Saturdays - May require day travel; valid driver license and reliable transportation required.

Prepare tax returns at VITA locations as determined by the director.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Identify/attend recruiting events within the community to attract qualified volunteers. (Recruit volunteers through various techniques such as e-mails, social media, set-up at community events)

Supervise volunteers, schedule appointments, and maintain calendars.

Train volunteers to perform intake and prepare basic and advanced tax returns in compliance with IRS guidelines.

Conduct and/or arrange volunteer orientations.

Create and facilitate distribution of information relevant to volunteers.

Set schedule for volunteers for different VITA sites; Supervise volunteers at VITA sites

Administrative Responsibilities

Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, thank you letters and other correspondences. Keep notes of staff meetings.

Order office supplies for all VITA (10) sites and maintain office equipment

Maintain relationships with vendors; prepare reports for reimbursements

Make bank deposits; work with NIAs Accountant to ensure that all receipts are accounted for

Housing Responsibilities

Facilitate all housing activities from recruitment to distribution of certification.

Maintain registration for individuals wanting to attend home buyer classes - confirm attendance and prepare certificates.

Maintain filing systems for all programs including grants, housing, both electronically and physically

Design and distribute organization newsletters

Social Media

Promote organizations activities through social media

Qualifications

  • Two-year post-secondary education in accounting, business management or related fields and Two years of bookkeeping experience OR combination of education and experience in the field (non-profit accounting a plus)

``` - Proficient using Microsoft Suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and all social media outlets - Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals - Exceptional Customer Service Skills; Pay extra attention to details - Outstanding written and verbal communications; basic mathematical and leadership skills - Strong organizational skills, handling sensitive and confidential information properly - Tax preparation experience (a plus); willing to learn VITA tax software program - Ability to work independently, as a team leader and in a fast-paced environment - Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
