Sarasota County Government Permitting Coordinator I or II, North County Location in Sarasota, Florida

Your daily workload consists of processing permits and payments to managing emails and being the point of contact for both internal and external customers.   • Accept all applications and information through walk-ins, phone calls, emails, or fax.

  • Process and issue all permit applications in the permit tracking system including building permits, zoning permits, etc.

  • Collect all types of payments for fees and issue refunds related to permitting, licensing, code enforcement, utilities, code enforcement, penalty fees, etc.

  • Process customer inquiries and make decisions in accordance with applicable ordinances, regulations, and unit policies.

  • Research files, databases, internet, GIS, and maps for a variety of source background materials.

  • Research and provide timely responses to department contact center folders.

  • Monitor emails received from building@scgov.net .

    E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 2 days per week! After you complete your first six months, contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

    Work Hours : Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    About You

    Permitting Coordinator I:

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of clerical office experience or customer service experience.

  • Valid Florida driver’s license.​

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building construction inspections, permitting, planning, zoning and /or construction knowledge.

    Permitting Coordinator II:

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of clerical or customer service experience.

  • One year of experience involved with the interpreting, enforcing, screening, or monitoring of a regulatory process (such as permitting, planning, zoning, ordinances, licenses, building, taxes, etc.).

  • Satisfactory Completion of Core Competencies or ability to obtain Core Competencies within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Valid Florida driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience with building construction inspections, permitting, planning, zoning and /or construction knowledge.

  • Experience with Land Information Management System (Accela).

    About Everything Else

    Permitting Coordinator I:

    Starting Pay Range: $18.00 - $19.00 hourly based on experience.

    Permitting Coordinator II:

    Starting Pay Range: $19.66 - $21.00 hourly based on experience.
