Sarasota County Government Code Compliance Inspector- Public Utilities in Sarasota, Florida

Do you have experience working with maintenance inspecting? As a Code Compliance Inspector for the Public Utilities Department, you will be inspecting private developments, public works projects, and treatment plants to ensure compliance. Join our team and apply today!

  • Inspect utility and development projects regulated by the County to ensure construction is in compliance with approved plans.

  • Ensure compliance with Utility Code, Unified Development Code, State regulations, and contract specifications.

  • Represent Public Utilities (Water, Wastewater, and Reclaimed Water departments) throughout the construction of the project at meetings.

  • Recommend and perform specialized tests regarding non-standard conditions.

  • Investigate and handle citizen complaints in relation to permitted utility construction projects.

  • Make detailed reports of field changes, violations, and code violations.

  • Perform and review proposed construction plans and specifications.

  • Inspect subdivisions during construction and participate in final acceptance inspections of subdivision and commercial projects.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent.

  • Four (4) years of utility construction work and/or inspection and testing of utility work.

  • Two (2) years out of the Four (4) years, must be in related inspecting experience.

  • College or university-level training in an appropriate field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required utility construction experience.

  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Starting Pay Range: $23.33 - $25.00 , depending on experience
