How you make a difference

The Director of Nursing (DON) will oversee the Nursing Department's overall operation, ensuring compliance with applicable nursing standards, regulations, and laws. They will work under the direction of a licensed medical professional, such as a Physician, Health Services Administrator (HSA), or Program Manager (PM), and will be responsible for planning, developing, and directing the department's activities. The DON will play a critical role in ensuring that high-quality nursing care is delivered to patients while maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists in the overall coordination of health care services for county detention facilities and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and laws.

• Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of nursing personnel and performs employee evaluations.

• Assists with clinical and administrative matters, including the development of policies and procedures, infection control, and quality management audits.

• Conducts staff meetings and in-services, and assists with staff training and orientation.

• Responsible for the management and control of methadone, employee personnel files, and the performance evaluations of direct reports.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

• BSN or Masters in Nursing is preferred

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in health care management, five years preferred.

• Three (3) years’ correctional experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Unrestricted current RN license in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.

• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA

• Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
