How you make a difference
The Director of Nursing (DON) will oversee the Nursing Department's overall operation, ensuring compliance with applicable nursing standards, regulations, and laws. They will work under the direction of a licensed medical professional, such as a Physician, Health Services Administrator (HSA), or Program Manager (PM), and will be responsible for planning, developing, and directing the department's activities. The DON will play a critical role in ensuring that high-quality nursing care is delivered to patients while maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
Assists in the overall coordination of health care services for county detention facilities and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and laws.
Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of nursing personnel and performs employee evaluations.
Assists with clinical and administrative matters, including the development of policies and procedures, infection control, and quality management audits.
Conducts staff meetings and in-services, and assists with staff training and orientation.
Responsible for the management and control of methadone, employee personnel files, and the performance evaluations of direct reports.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
BSN or Masters in Nursing is preferred
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in health care management, five years preferred.
Three (3) years’ correctional experience
Licenses/Certifications
Unrestricted current RN license in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
