Key Responsibilities:

The Manager of Project Management and R&D Operations will play an exciting role in shaping and carrying out projects to improve healthcare as a member of Johnson & Johnson in the Depuy Synthes BIO team! This role has project/program management responsibilities within the Project Management Office (PMO), management of PMO operations and execution, as well as possible supervisory duties. The primary objective for the PMO is driving New Product Development (NPD) projects to successful completion on time and on budget. Other objectives include management of the R&D departmental budget and resources, communication and reporting on project/program status and metrics to various cross-functional business partners, management of shared service priorities, partnering with other NPD departments (i.e. supply chain, quality, regulatory) to proactively identify challenges and mitigate them, and driving continuous improvement of PMO excellence and execution.

  • Responsible for delivery of any assigned NPD projects and/or the oversight of NPD projects of other project managers in the PMO.

  • Provides comprehensive coaching to assigned Project Management personnel to achieve best-in-class project execution for BIO R&D.

  • May have responsibilities to supervise and develop Project Management team, including coordination of appropriate Project Management talent allocation within the portfolio of BIO projects. Assigns according to projected scopes and demand in alignment with project goals.

  • Champion for a positive inclusive culture, accountability, and creativity among assigned project teams and within the department!

  • Promotes and implements innovation initiatives for PMO departmental improvements e.g. changes in process / procedure to streamline product development.

  • Ensures proper communication with internal and external partners and platforms to coordinate project plans, including dependencies and phasing of resources, budget, and launch/timeline goals.

  • Represents the BIO PMO at management-level meetings and/or activities within R&D. Facilitates resolution of project and departmental challenges with other R&D Group Managers and/or department head(s).

  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the technical aspects of the biomaterial biologic medical device products/industry and ability to confidently drive resolution and communicate detail of technical project issues with cross-functional team members.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering, life science, or business required, MBA or other MS degree preferred.

  • PMP certification required.

  • A minimum of 7 years business experience in project management required; preferred experience managing product development

  • Medical Device experience preferred.

  • Experience leading a geographically dispersed team is required.

  • At least 1 year minimum people management or deep mentorship experience is preferred.

  • Must be comfortable working in a highly matrixed environment with a demonstrated ability to influence without authority.

  • Experienced with MS Project, Agile/Scrum or Kanban (JIRA preferred), MS Teams, Sharepoint, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.

  • Experience leading a high priority project team from concept/feasibility through commercialization is required.

  • Previous experience running large programs with multiple workstreams and/or externally developed products is required.

  • Excellent social skills, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to professionally interface at all levels within the company and with customers

  • Enjoys working independently, providing multiple solutions to problems and effectively integrating systems.

  • Well organized, self-motivated, energetic, creative and resourceful.

  • Excellent knowledge of English language (C1 or fluent speaker)

  • CSM Certification highly desirable.

This job posting is anticipated to close on July 16, 2024, the company may however extend this time-period.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 to $170,000. California Bay Area - The anticipated base pay range for this position is $139,000-$195,500. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
