Comprehensive Care

Dominican offers emergency services and is a Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. Dominican’s services include the only comprehensive Cancer Center in Santa Cruz County, a Total Joint Replacement program, and advanced neurological and endoscopic services. Dominican regularly receives ‘A’ grades for hospital safety from Leapfrog Group, and has received national recognition for superior patient safety, cardiac care, and stroke treatment from Healthgrades, a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

As Santa Cruz County’s heart attack (STEMI) receiving center, Dominican Hospital provides cutting edge cardiac care. The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.

Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.

In The Community

Beyond care inside the hospital, Dominican is dedicated to the health and wellness of the Santa Cruz community.

Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic, a tattoo removal program, and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition, and in accordance with our mission, Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community, including children and adults, students, seniors, and the homeless population. A CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident is a new graduate direct clinical care registered nurse (RN) who continues to develop nursing knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors introduced in formal education as they transition into practice. They are expected to demonstrate the appropriate competency in both core and functional areas, listed below.

Progression is expected in the areas of leading through mission vision and values, patient/customer focus, taking ownership, health care knowledge, teamwork, clinical performance improvement, service excellence, decision making and critical thinking, and patient safety.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evidence-based Practice (EBP) and Patient Care: Builds skills to utilize current evidence based practiceknowledge, the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals across the lifespan and care continuum.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with aminimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursingrequired

  • 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience

  • Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

  • BLS certification - American Heart Association

  • Current ACLS certification required from American Heart Association

  • Additional certifications may be required based onpopulation(s) served and services provided

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

  • Ability to deliver excellence in patient care through assessing,formulating nursing diagnoses and establishinggoals, planning and implementing intervention,and evaluating patient care outcomes.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret hospital policies andprocedures, professional journals, technicalprocedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Write reports and procedures, and document in themedical record.

  • Effectively present information and respond toquestions from co-workers, managers,patients, physicians, family members and the general public.

  • Calculate figures and amounts such asweights, dosages, flow rates, proportions,percentages and volume.

  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, anddraw valid conclusions.

  • Interpret an extensive variety of technicalinstructions in mathematical or diagram formand deal with several abstract and concretevariables.

  • Critically think and problem solve.

  • Read, write and speak English.

  • Must be able to complete entire program with a perfect attendance record

  • Must be able to work 3 days per week after completing first 12 weeks

  • Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays

  • Must agree to terms and conditions of the program

Pay Range

$67.37 - $85.98 /hour
