Position Summary:
The Utility Management Analyst is responsible for overseeing and improving the operations of utility systems, ensuring that utility services such as water, electricity, gas, and waste management are delivered efficiently, effectively, and within regulatory guidelines across the client’s portfolio. This role will require the capabilities to analyze data, identify trends, and work on strategies to improve the management of resources and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
Collect, analyze, and interpret data from utility systems to identify trends, performance issues, and cost-saving opportunities.
Analyze energy efficiency as well as greenhouse gas emission reduction opportunities of existing buildings, equipment, and processes.
Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders on utility usage, performance metrics, and cost analysis.
Coordinate / communicate efforts through the applicable energy management networks and energy teams.
- Cost Management and Budgeting:
Assist in budgeting and financial forecasting related to utility expenses.
Analyze and track utility consumption costs, identify areas of inefficiency, and propose strategies for reducing costs.
Monitor utility billing discrepancies and resolve any issues related to overcharges or billing errors.
Leverage utility, county, local or other rebate programs on the client’s behalf.
- Utility Planning and Optimization:
Help develop and implement utility management strategies to optimize consumption and reduce environmental impact.
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for utility systems and propose improvements to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Work with and lead procurement to ensure all client supply side and demand side purchases are aligned with the applicable goals.
- Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to utility services, including energy, water, and waste management.
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and policy changes that could affect utility operations.
Vendor and Contract Management:
Manage relationships with utility service providers and vendors.
Assist in negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, and ensuring service levels meet expectations.
- Project Management:
Lead or support utility-related projects, such as the implementation of new systems, energy-saving initiatives, or facility upgrades.
Provide guidance in selection of equipment and machinery (e.g., chillers, turbines, etc.)
Coordinate with various departments to ensure the timely execution of utility-related projects.
- Sustainability and Environmental Impact:
Collaborate with the sustainability team to identify opportunities for energy conservation, waste reduction, and the use of renewable energy sources.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of utility operations.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education :
A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Certifications in LEED, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and/or Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP) are a plus
Experience : 5+ years of experience in utility management, energy management, or a related field.
Analytical Skills : Strong ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
Knowledge : Familiarity with utility billing systems, energy efficiency, sustainability practices, and relevant regulations.
Technical Skills : Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and utility management software. Knowledge of data visualization tools is a plus.
Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with stakeholders, vendors, and team members.
Problem-Solving : Ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement changes to improve utility management.
Work Environment:
Typically based in an office setting, but may require field visits to utility sites or facilities.
Occasional travel for meetings, audits, or site evaluations.
